Incumbent --
Joe B. McNeal

Wednesday, October 31, 2007

Mayor Joe B. McNeal is seeking a second term as mayor "of the metropolis of Mountain Home."

McNeal said in a prepared statement that he will run on his administration's accomplishments during his first four years as mayor.

He said those accomplishments include "a dramatic increase in living-wage jobs, library expansion, commercial and residential growth and a "friendlier, more open city government."

Despite critics' comments that his goals were too ambitious, McNeal said, he had "fulfilled his campaign promise of bringing high-paying industry to Mountain Home." He also noted that he had followed through with another campaign promise, "an unprecedented idea to expand citizens' participation (in government) by holding twice yearly town hall meetings."

McNeal said that his vision for Mountain Home has not been fully implemented, yet, and is hoping voters will give him another term to complete his programs.

  • I enjoy the fact that we have a mayor that indeed has a vision for the city. I realize, as the editor pointed out last week, he has made mistakes, but at least he doesn't want to settle for business as usual. Keep up the good work Mayor!!

  • Dear Mr. Mayor,

It was hard for me to decide who would get my vote this time, as I think the world of you. No one was happier than I that you were elected last time.

But frankly, the golf course business, your not including the council in some matters, the bad feelings apparent at council meetings, the silliness over address changes (when some changes are so needed!)...well, I'm so sorry but I voted for Tom Rist last week at City Hall.

If others decided otherwise, and you get a second chance, please rethink and determine to do better this time.

    Love,

    Senior Lady

  • Senior Lady, do you really think Joe reads this blog??? Haha, the man absolutely hates computers and instead prefers to use the ole string-and-cup method as a means of communication. :)

  • Dear mrfresh28,

You are probably right, but I'm still hoping he can change his ways. If he does get reelected, he'll really have to, or it will be a terrible time in Mtn Home.

And if he loses, let's hope he learns his lessons for sure. He's a smart man.

  • Sounds like things are already pretty terrible in Mnt. Home. From some of the postings I've read, looks like it's starting to turn into the next Caldwell/Nampa.

  • Things are not terrible here. We're growing and we're getting used to that, and learning. What problems we have are not insurmountable. Yes, there are some things that worry us, but that will only get us acting on them.

  • he just lost my vote, i was irritated by him to begin with but when i got what was essentially a "telemarketing call" last night around 6 which wasnt even him personally asking for my vote that really ticked me off. telemarketers suck and i dont care who they are .

  • That's some funny stuff, just1. Sounds like Uncle Joe is getting desperate.

  • I agree, I was irritated about my call Sunday night. Please have enough respect not to call me on Sunday. I dont mind any other day, JUST NOT SUNDAY. He also lost my vote for "telemarketing" on Sunday.

  • Oh, Mr. Mayor. The billboards, the TV -- even CAM-8 -- the website, the telemarketing, maybe for a state-wide office, but for a small town election? I'm sure you meant well, but it's just falling flat with many of us! How much are you spending? I am so disappointed in you.

Well, I voted absentee a week ago and I voted for Mr. Rist. More than ever I'm sure I did the right thing.

  • I might not know alot of the rumors of Mt Home politics (which there are quite a few - i.e. the "thrifty fifty" "nickel" - whatever) but I can tell you one thing - Mayor McNeal has always answered any question and/or problem that I may have had. He has always served his country and city citizens well. Thank you Mayor. No matter what the outcome of this election, you are still an American Hero and a great role model to follow.

  • Dear Senior Lady,

On behalf of Camera 8 I just want to make it perfectly clear that we were available to ALL of the candidates to assist in their campaigns. Through the services we have available they were all more than welcome to come in and produce their own commercial, take out Video Bulletin Board ads etc. We do not support any particular candidate, as a Public Access Television Station we are bound by standards to be impartial and fair to all. Please feel free to stop by the Station at any time during office hours (or set an appointment) and I would be more than happy to give you a tour and answer any questions you have regarding using a PAC Station in your community.

    Respectfully,

    Camera 8
