Fun Run/Walk to coincide with Wellness Day

Mayor Joe B. McNeal has proclaimed Oct 27 to be Adult Health and Wellness Day in Mountain Home

Mayor Joe B. McNeal officially declared Oct. 27 to be Adult Health and Wellness Day in the city of Mountain Home, after signing a proclamation recently, with members of the Western Elmore County Recreation District looking on.

"These are the kind of things that make this community what it is. It's my honor and privilege to sign this proclamation," said McNeal.

In attendance for the proclamation were Teri Smith, public relations cordinatior for the Western Elmore County Recreation District, Doreen Krabbenhoft, community relation cordinator for Elmore Medical Center, Betty Ashcroft, treasurer for the Recreation Foundation, volunteers Charles Kennedy, Nancy Martin and Joyce Allgood and walkers Gerry Sterling and Marie Jentley.

Jentley recently walked in the St. Lukes Women's Fitness Celebration in Boise, and finished 20th overall out of approximately 800 competitors, and finishing first in her age group.

On Oct. 27, starting at 9:30 a.m., the Recreation Foundation of Elmore County, Inc. and the Western Elmore County Recreation District will host its 5th annual "Adult Fun Run/Walk" in conjuction with the Elmore Medical Center's 7th annual "Health and Wellness Day," at Hacker Middle School from 7-11 a.m.

The fun run/walk will be a 2 mile walk, (with registration starting from 8:30-9:15 a.m.) where the competitors may choose to stroll through the course or hit the ground running at 9:30 a.m. in front of Hacker Middle School on Jackson Street.

A number of prizes have been donated to be awarded following the fun run/walk, including:

• Lift tickets valued at $59 each from Tamarack Resort.

• One night's stay at Cactus Pete's Resort and Casino, valued at $100.

• Gift cards along with other items from Shu's Idaho Running Co. of Boise.

• Boise Hawks event tickets for the 2008 season.

• Handcrafted Navajo pottery from Desert Mountain Visitor Center.

• A round of golf, with cart, from Desert Canyon Golf Course.

All participants of the walk/run will be given a ticket for a chance to win one of the prices. Pre-register by Oct. 24 to receive an extra ticket.

Organizers are asking for a suggested donation of $5 at the time of registrations. All proceeds go to supporting the Mountain Home Community Center Complex.
