Wednesday, October 24, 2007

This year the annual Elmore Medical Center Health and Wellness Day will be held in a new location - " the Hacker Middle School gym and cafeteria, from 7-11 a.m.

The event was moved to the new location due to the fire that destroyed the Mountain Home Elks Lodge.

The booth space for the event is still available for venders and service providers from Mountain Home and Boise. Businesses that wish to participate can call Anna Hissong at 587-8401 ext 146 to reserve their space.

Staff volunteers from Elmore Medical Center provide the manpower to make this event a success each year.

Radiology staff will be providing free bone density scans.

Trinity Mountain Family Practice staff will offer free blood pressure checks.

The lab staff will be on hand to draw blood for low-cost fasting blood tests and PSA screenings.

Nursing staff will administer flu shots.

Participants that pre-register will receive a reduced rate of $20 for the lab tests. The blood chemistry test requires a 12-hour fasting period prior to having the blood draw.

A new offering this year is the prostrate screening. The PSA pre-registration fee is $10.

Walk-in fees for the lab test will be $22 and for the PSA test $12.

Registrations forms are available at the front desk at Elmore Medical Center.

Flu shots will once again be made available to the public at the Health Fair, however, anyone who wishes to receive the flu shot must pre-register and must be 18 years or older. The cost is $15 and must be prepaid. Walk-ins will not be accepted for flu shots.

Anyone who is unable to attend the health fair to receive their flu shot should contact their primary care physician's office to make an appointment to receive the shot.

The Hospial Auxiliary members will be helping with the snacks table and selling See's candy as part of their annual fundraising activities. A variety of other staff and community volunteers help with set up, registration, and clean up.

The Annual Health and Wellness Day has become a community wide event and everyone is being encouraged to attend.

The Western Elmore County Recreation District is hosting an Adult fun walk/run starting at 9 a.m., to be held in conjunction with the event. Persons who would like to register for the walk/run activity should call the WECRD office at 580-2377.
