Parents, students warned of financial aid scam

Wednesday, October 3, 2007

High school junior and senior students and their parents are being warned of financial aid scams where students receive invitations to seminars on financial aid for college attendance from private companies that could wind up costing hundreds of dollars.

Judy Case, a counselor at Mountain Home High School, warned, "Beware that these seem like legitimate companies offering free booklets and advice at the end of the session, but in reality the companies are attempting to have you or your parents sign up for their programs which can cost hundreds of dollars."

Case said,"Understanding the financial aid process can be difficult and you may not know where to turn"

Case recommended seeing your high school counselor for financial aid advice.
