The Mountain Home Tigers competed well at the Weiser Invitational Cross Country meet last Thursday.

The Mountain home girls finished seventh out of 10 teams.

Hailey Schaefer was the 11th runner to cross the finish line in the girls competition. She ran a 23:23. Jordan Vivier ran a 24:40, which placed her 23rd. Jessi Cameron was 32nd, with a time of 25:27. Alysia Crandall came in 44th with a 26:36, Jennica Quintal was 60th with a 27:38, and Tiana Svetkovich was 67th with a 28:12.

The Tiger boys finished 12th out of 15 teams competing.

Matt Bernyk paced Mountain Home, finishing 44th with a time of 20:14. Nick Reynolds was 51, with a 20:25. Josh Bush ran a 21:10, good for 64th, Gavin Cline was 68th, with a 21:33, Andrew Martin finished 71st with a 21:40, Dylan Johnson was 74th with a 21:50, and Garrett Wood was 78th with a 22:36.

"The kids ran really well, the kids had a good pack," said Tiger cross country coach Doug Root. "The kids were disappointed with their times because I thought they ran better, but it was an all grass course, which will always slow you down, and there were some side hills that are hard to run."

The Tigers go to the Bob Firman Invitational this Saturday at Eagle Island State Park.

"It's a relatively flat course," said Coach Root of the Bob Firman course. "It does have one hill on it, but it's more of a factor on the down-hill part of it than on the up-hill.

"There's going to be between 2,500-2,600 athletes running that day. We're going to run a ninth grade girls team with Hailey Schaefer and Jordan Vivier leading it. They are our number one and two runners, and they're both ninth graders. The other girls will run either on varsity or junior varsity -- I haven't decided yet -- in division II. Our boys will run in the varsity division in our division I, and we're going to see some good competition there. I want to see what they can do when the whole race course is packed with runners. I think they're about ready to bust out and do very well, and I hope this is the meet they do so."
