Lady Tigers go winless during rough week

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers volleyball team faced Kuna and Middleton in a conference tri-match at Middleton last Tuesday night, losing both matches.

Middleton 17, 13, 25, 25, 15

Mtn. Home 25, 25, 18, 21, 11

The Lady Tigers won the first game, 25-17, and rolled to a 25-13 win in the second game to go up two games to none in the best of five, but dropped the next three to lose the match, 2-3.

"We came out and dominated the first two games, then tightened up when it came time to put it away," said Lady Tiger volleyball coach Sarah DeVore of the Middleton match.

Sarah Cantrell was 15/17 serving, and had five kills, Hannah Zamora was 12/12 on serves, Brandie Riggs was 15/17 serving, with three aces and 12 assists, Nickayla Skinner was 19/20 serving, and had three kills and three blocks, and Emily Moranda had seven kills and five blocks.

Kuna 25, 18, 25, 25

Mtn. Home 21, 25, 19, 21

The Lady Tigers then faced Kuna, and lost in four close games.

"We played even with Kuna for most of the night, but they were able to pull away down the stretch," said Coach DeVore. Sarah Cantrell was good on 11/14 serves and had seven kills,

Emily Moranda had 12 kills and three blocks, Brandie Riggs was 15/18 serving and had 17 assists, Nickayla Skinner was 12/14 serving with three blocks and eight digs, Chantell Crane was 11/12 serving with an ace, seven kills and two blocks, Katie Price was 10/10 serving with two aces, and Hannah Zamora was 4/5 serving with three kills, two blocks and eight digs.

The Lady Tigers traveled down to Idaho Falls for the Tiger-Griz Invitational over the weekend. In pool play on Friday, they lost to Idaho Falls, 25-13, 25-3, lost to Shelley, 25-16, 25-15, and lost to Snake River, 25-16, 25-20.

In bracket play on Saturday, the Lady Tigers opened up against Sugar-Salem and lost, 25-15, 25-15. Sugar-Salem went on to win the tournament.

Mountain Home then faced Pocatello in a loser-out match, and lost in three, 25-19, 17-25, 11-15.

Despite going winless in the tourney, Coach DeVore thought it was a good experience for her girls.

"It was definitely great to see the different caliber of teams throughout the state. It was a good mix and really, in terms of seeing exactly what we need to work on, these great teams showed us that."

The Lady Tigers were at Columbia last night, and travel to Skyview tomorrow night.
