Firefighters battle blaze at historic Basque hotel

Friday, September 7, 2007

Fire crews responded Friday about noon to a report of a blaze at Towne Square Mall.

Fire officials on the scene said the initial investigation indicated that crews re-roofing the building, accidentally started a fire on the roof.

Some of the flames managed to penetrate to the interior ceiling and walls on the third floor, but the fire was quickly extinguished by fire crews.

More details will be available in next week's Mountain Home News.

  • I am happy to hear that the MHFD was on the scene and taking care of the fire before it totally destroyed the building. I remember that building being a landmark when mom was taking me to school at West, it meant that my freedom for the day was about to be taken for a while. Then as an adult my love of the history of the town interested me in the older buildings of town. Thank you for saving this part of MH history.
