Power outage cancels football game; Tigers were trailing 20-0

Wednesday, September 5, 2007

A blown power transformer during a Friday night thunderstorm knocked out the lights to Tiger Field and ended the Tigers' home opener at halftime.

With word that it could be two to three hours before Idaho Power could have the lights back on, the game was called at halftime, not having gone long enough to be ruled as an official game.

First-game jitters definitely were evident for Mountain Home in the first half, as they struggled offensively, and gave up three scores, trailing 20-0 at halftime.

"I think the kids were so excited to play a game, they kind of lost focus, lost the mental aspect of it, and we maybe should have done a better job preparing them for that," said Tiger head football coach Brain Floyd.

"We learned a lot of stuff from the film. The kids took what they needed to out of it, and they're upset about how we started out the half.

"I thought by the end of the second quarter, our defense finally started doing what we were asking them to.

"Offensively, we were just going the wrong way a lot of the time. It seemed like we invented a lot of new plays that were never in the play book.

"I really wanted to come out for the second half. We had made some adjustments and the kids really wanted to come out and play."

The Tigers travel to Bronco Stadium at Boise State University this Friday night to face the Capital Eagles in another non-league game. Coach Floyd says the Eagles are another good 5A team.

"They're extremely fast. Their D-line looks very good. They like to spread things out, a lot of what Eagle was doing. I think they're going to be a better team than Eagle."

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Friday night at BSU.
