Rose Creek fire burning south of Silver City

Wednesday, September 5, 2007

Expected strong winds this afternoon and possible thunderstorms could cause challenges for fire crews currently trying to contain the Rose Creek fire south of Silver City in Owyhee County.

Robert Narus with the Boise District-BLM released a statement this evening stating that three hand crews were on scene battling the fire in a remote area where access is difficult due to rocky terrain approximately 21 miles south of Silver City.

Single engine tankers had established retardant lines around the fire earlier today and helicopters have also been dropping water on the fire line to assist with containment efforts.

Currently, the fire is 40 percent contained and crews expect complete containment by noon tomorrow.

  • I wish that everyone fighting this fire and the others burning in Idaho safety while they do this service to us all. May the historic area of Silver City and its surroundings be spared a charred fate.
