Burn ban in effect for Mountain Home and Glenns Ferry

Friday, July 13, 2007

A burn ban is now in effect throughout Mountain Home and the Mountain Home Rural Fire District, the Glenns Ferry area and the King Hill Rural Fire District which includes the communities of Hammett and King Hill.

Mountain Home Fire Chief Phil Gridley, noting the extremely dry conditions at present, said the ban includes all open burning and burning of items in burn barrels.

The fire danger rating has been raised to "extremely high" as higher temperatures dry out grasses and other "fuel" in the area. Area residents are reminded to use all basic precautions when working or playing in the desert or hills. Vehicles going off-road should be particularly careful as both mufflers and catalytic converters can easily start fires.

Bob Janousek, fire chief for Glenns Ferry and the King Hill Rural Fire District, said that this is a ban on all fires including the burning of yard debris and the burning of fields.
