James "Jim" Bennett Hampton, III, 66 of Bruneau, died Saturday, March 24, 2007, in Bruneau.

A viewing will be held from noon until the funeral service at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, at the Bruneau American Legion Hall. Burial will follow at the Bruneau Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.

Jim was born on May 12, 1940, in Nampa, the son of James and Florence Hampton. He was raised in Bruneau on a ranch where he learned to love horses and the western lifestyle. He loved his Japanese-Quarter horses, his family said.

Jim graduated from Bruneau High School in 1958 and then attended a construction school in Weiser.

After serving in the Army from 1963 to 1965, Jim began driving truck. He drove for several companies, in particular Garrett Trucking and Simplot Livestock. He drove over a million miles across the United States accident free and received several safety awards.

Jim is survived by: his only daughter, Betty Jo, and her husband, Reed Shuler of Carey; one granddaughter; the woman described by his family as "his loving partner, the love of his life and 'Right Hand Man'," Sandra Hickman of Bruneau; his mother, Florence Hampton of Bruneau; his three sisters, Etta Averill of Nampa, Eileen Swenson of Mountain Home, and Lois and her husband, LaVar Rivers, of Nampa, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, James, two brother in-laws, two uncles and one nephew.
