Evelyn Everett, 94

Evelyn M. (Devlin) Everett, 94, a lifelong resident of Mountain Home, died Jan. 10, 2007, at a local care center in Eagle.

Following a rosary, funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 13, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home. Burial followed at Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain Home. Arrangements were under the direction of Rost Funeral Home.Evelyn was born Aug. 12, 1912, in Mountain Home, to William M. and Josephine A. (Tibodeau) Devlin. She was the third of four children, which included A.J. Devlin, Genevieve (Devlin) Hallvik, and Clarence Devlin. Her father and mother owned and operated one of the first construction companies in the timber and mining industry in the Atlanta, Rocky Bar and Featherville area.

She grew up in Mountain Home and graduated from Mountain Home High School in 1930. Following high school she attended the University of Idaho, Southern Branch, in Pocatello, graduating in May 1932. She returned to Mountain Home and for several years worked in the Elmore County Assessors Office.

She married Vernon W. Everett on Jan. 6, 1940, and moved to Buhl where he was employed with Boise Payette Lumber Company. In early 1941 the couple moved back to Mountain Home where their first child, Josephine Ann "Jodie" was born. Three years later their son, Vernon Michael "Mike," was born. They lived the remainder of their lives in Mountain Home among many friends and family members.

"Mom loved living in Mountain Home and enjoyed the many fishing trips they took to Pine and Featherville, where Vern was raised," her family said.

She was a devout member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church and an active member of the Ladies Alter Society. In the early 1950s she worked at Mountain Home Air Force Base but preferred to be at home caring for her kids and husband. She was a dedicated supporter for the Mountain Home High School sports program and never missed a game, her family said.

In the mid '60s and early '70s she became a grandmother six times over and enjoyed each and every one, her family said. "She often referred to the grandkids as the 'thundering herd' and took great pride in introducing them to her friends."

She was a Charter Member of the Mountain Home Golf Course and enjoyed many rounds of golf with her friends for more than 20 years.

Evelyn is survived by: her daughter, Jodie, and husband Joe King of Eagle; her son, Mike, and his wife, Tama Everett of Boise, six grandchildren, and nine great-granchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vern, her brother, A.J. Devlin, and her sister, Genevieve Hallvik.
