The Mountain Home Tigers finished in the number 11 spot at last Thursday's Jerome Invitational Cross Country Meet at 93 Golf Ranch near Jerome in the boys competition.

Matt Bernyk led the Tiger boys with a time of 21:12. Charlie Blacklock came in at 21:52. Nico Pinque ran a 22:08, Garrett Wood, 23:15, Mason Stephens, 25:13, and Andrew Trayer, 30:37.

"It was a relatively tough course," said Tiger cross country coach Doug Root of the Jerome course. "It had a lot of long hills on it and our times were not as fast. We only had one kid who had a PR and that was Andrew Trayer, and he eclipsed his PR by four minutes, so he had an outstanding race.

"We were without (our number two runner) Brett Kohring, so that hurt us, but the kids ran competitively. It's coming together and we're getting our times down and we're getting a more consistent group, we just have to work a little bit harder to get the pack a little tighter and get the pack up a little bit, and we'll be more competitive towards the end of the year."

Jessie Furst led the Mountain Home girls, running a 22:47. Jessi Cameron ran a 25:32, Jennica Quintal came in with a 27:05, Piper Coffin ran a 27:38, Kelci Robinson ran a 28:34, Cindy Blacklock had a 32:00, Sarah Hyde, 32:51, and Courtney Ashford, 33:51.

The Tigers will be at Strike Dam tomorrow (Thursday) for a meet hosted by Rimrock.

"It's going to have a lot of hills on it," said Coach Root. "It's going to have 780 feet of vertical change from the top of Strike Dam to the bottom of Strike Dam, so that's going to be a challenge for the kids. A lot of it is going to be run on pavement. We've never run down there, so it's going to be interesting to see how it goes."
