Earl and Shirley Tischendorf

Earl and Shirley Tischendorf, of Hammett, recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary at an open house at the home of their close friends, George and Mary Withers, also of Hammett.

Earl and Shirley were married on Sept. 13, 1945, in North Tonawanda, N.Y., where they grew up. Earl returned home to marry Shirley after service in India, flying missions into China during WWII where he earned about several air medals and a Purple Heart.

Earl retired from the United States Air Force in 1967 as a major. During their military service the couple traveled extensively but chose to retire to the "Old Charlie Brown" place in Hammett Valley.

Over the past 40 years, Shirley has been involved in the JOC's of Hammett, her sorority, and is still active with the Glenns Ferry Catholic Church, and bowling league in Mountain Home.

Earl was active with rock clubs, raising race horses and farming. He is still working the land.

Earl and Shirley have four children, nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild on the way.
