Emergency crews and law enforcement authorities begin their investigation of the accident.

Two persons are dead after a head-on crash on Interstate 84 a mile from The Pilot exit at Mountain Home.

Ethel Borders, 84, of Mountain Home, reportedly entered the freeway going the wrong way at the exit 95 ramp and was headed westbound in the eastbound lane, when her 1993 Cadillac collided head on with an eastbound 2006 Pontiac Vibe, killing both her and the man driving the other car, according to the Idaho State Police.

The other driver killed in the accident has been identified as Prithee Persad, 64, of Grand Prairie, Texas. He was driving a rental car with California plates.

The crash happened just before noon, Tuesday, June 27. Both cars were believed to be doing about 75 miles an hour when they collided. ISP officers described it as an extremely violent collision.

Borders was dead when rescue personnel arrived and Persad died a few minutes later at the scene.

There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Both lanes of the eastbound interstate were closed while extrication teams removed the two victims from their smashed vehicles.

A third vehicle also was apparently involved, ISP officers said, but the officers are still determining exactly what involvement it may have had in the crash, if any.

ISP officers are continuing their investigation.
