Varsity girls basketball team goes 4-3 for the week

The varsity girls basketball team had a 4-3 record this past week.

During league play the girls went 1-2 and in tournament play they went 3-1 in the Jesus Zeller Tournament in Weiser.

On Monday, the girls played the Lady Tigers from Ontario.

Ontario scored early and often enroute to a 48-18 victory.

Francesca Hale led the Mountain Home team with 7 points, Emily Moranda added 6 points, Marquina Gilliam had 3 points and Jessica Egusquiza had 2 points to round out the scoring.

On Tuesday, the girls played Nampa. In a back and forth game the Lady Bulldogs pulled the game out in the fourth quarter for a 33-22 win.

Jessica Egusquiza led the Tigers with 7 points. Chantell Crane and Emily Moranda each had 5 points. Francesca Hale had 3 points and Ashley Kipp added 2 points.

On Wednesday, playing without any regular post players, the girls took on Homedale. Taking "playing without size" to a new level, the team used a five-guard line-up in the 23-22 win.

Brandie Riggs led the team with 11 points. Marquina Gilliam had 8 points. Jessica Egusquiza and Ashley Kipp each added 2 points in the victory.

On Friday the girls traveled to Weiser to play in the Jenna Zeller Tournament. They opened the tournament playing Caldwell and Weiser Friday evening.

In the Caldwell game, tight man defense kept the Lady Cougars at bay for the 33-23 victory.

Francesca Hale and Hannah Zamora led the team with 7 poinis each. Emily Moranda had 5 points. Jessica Egusquiza and Ashley Kipp each had 4 points. Sheena Nelson and Chantell Crane rounded out the scoring with 3 points each.

Next up was Weiser. In a close game that went right down to the end, the Lady Tigers held on for a 38-31 victory. Jessica Egusquiza and Chantell Crane led the team with 10 points each. Hannah Zamora had 6 points and Brandie Riggs added 4 points. Francesca Hale, Sammy Dawson, Ashley Kipp and Emily Moranda each had 2 points to round out the scoring.

On Saturday, the Lady Tigers opened play against Vale, Ore. Vale's strong running and inside game proved more than the Lady Tigers could handle as Vale came away with a 36-24 win.

Ashley Kipp had a strong game with 8 points and led the team. Chanetell Crane added 5 points, Jessica Equsquiza contributed 4 and Francesca Hale and Hannah Zamora each scored 2 points.

In the last game of the tournament the Tigers faced the New Plymouth Pilgrims. The game went down to the last shot and the Tigers held on for a 39-37 victory.

Francesca Hale and Brandie Riggs led the team with 13 points each. Chantell Crane had 9 points. Jessica Egasquiza had 3 points and Hannah Zamora chipped in one point towards the win. Katie Price contributed with strong defensive play.

At the end of the week the Lady Tigers were 13-8 overall and 12-3 in tournament play.

The girls host Emmett on Monday and travel to Nampa on Wednesday. On Friday they will play in the Lady Bruin Classic in Twin Falls.
