The Mountain Home Tiger tennis team continued to show improvement in its latest matches.

Kuna 7

Mountain Home 5

The Tigers battled Kuna tough in a conference tennis match at Kuna on March 16, but fell short, 5-7, to the Kavemen.

Mountain Home swept the girls singles matches from Kuna. Nora Fischer won the #1 singles match, 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (10-3) over Kuna's Kindra Newby. Julie Remington took the #2 singles match over Tressa Cole, 6-0, 6-1, and Laura Lothrop won the # 3 singles match, 6-4, 6-1, over Aliana Roberts.

Mountain Home also swept the girls doubles, with Annie Bledsoe and Lindsay Horgan winning the #1 doubles match, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, and Christina Gutierrez and Tara Brandenburg winning the #2 doubles, 7-5, 6-2.

In boys singles, Jordan Niksich lost the # 1 singles match in a hard-fought three-set match, and Joey Miller and Keenan Galloway lost in straight sets. The boys doubles also lost hard-fought matches.

Caldwell 8

Mountain Home 4

The Tigers battled the Caldwell Cougars tough in their home opener at the airbase before losing, 4-8 on March 20.

Mountain Home again swept the girls singles, with Nora Fischer winning the #1 singles, 6-3, 6-1, Julie Remington taking the #2 singles, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), and Laura Lothrop winning in three, 6-7 (4-7), 6-0, 7-6 (7-4).

Mountain Home's other win came in the #3 boys singles match where Justin Richins won in three, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.

"Although we lost overall, the Tigers put up a huge battle with several matches that could have gone either way," said Mountain Home Tiger tennis coach Tamzy House. "I was very proud of the team. They showed a lot of determination.

"I was especially pleased with the progress they are making in their tennis technique. We have been focusing on getting the ball in play, using basic double play patterns and stressing partner communication. We are getting games now, but soon we will be getting sets, then matches."

Skyview 7

Mountain Home 5

Mountain Home battled Skyview tough before losing to the Hawks at Skyview, 5-7, on March 23.

Once again Mountain Home had a great effort in the girls singles, as all three won. Nora Fischer won the #1 singles, 6-0, 6-2, Julie Remington won, 6-4, 6-1, and Laura Lothrop won, 6-0, 6-3.

Jordan Niksich won the #1 boys singles match, 7-6 (7-0), 6-4, and the Tigers other win came in the # 1 girls doubles match, where Breanna White and Daryl Enriquez won, 6-2, 6-1.

"The blustery wind was a major problem for all the players today," said Coach House. "It added a lot of chaos to the tennis game."

Mountain Home hosted the defending State 4A Champion Bishop Kelly Knights on Monday, and travel to Emmett tomorrow (Thursday). They host Jerome in a non-conference match at the airbase on Friday.
