Walter C. Vallard, 89, of Mountain Home, died at home, Wednesday, March 22, 2006.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 28, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel, Mountain Home. Burial followed at Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain Home. Arrangements erre under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.

Walt was born, Aug. 29, 1916, in Newald, Wisc., to Ralph and Mary (Potier) Vallard. He received his education in Newald. At age 13 he went to work with his brothers in the timber industry. In August 1939 he went to live with his aunt in Chicago.

On June 11, 1941, he entered the Army Air Force. He served overseas in Panama and Peru. While stationed at Mountain Home he married Louise Tucker of Melba on Oct. 6, 1945. He was discharged on Oct. 17, 1945, with the rank of sergeant.

During their first years of marriage they lived in Chicago, Newald, Wisc., Melba, and Cottonwood. In 1959 Walt went to work for Sawtooth Lumber in Mountain Home, where he worked until his retirement.

In retirement he continued to cut firewood. He enjoyed his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, wood working and an occasional Jackpot trip until failing health made most activity impossible.

He is survived by: his wife, Louise, of Mountain Home; sons Carl Vallard of Mountain Home, Paul and his wife, Kathy Vallard, of Nampa, Tom and his wife, Marlena Vallard, of Hammett; daughters Caroline and her husband, Jerry Vallard-Thornton, of Boise, and Joan and her husband, Galen Plumb, of Casper, Wyo., one brother, Frances Vallard, of St. Maries, 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary, one grandson, one great-grandson, five brothers and five sisters.
