The Mountain Home Lady Tigers came away with a split of their SIC 4A conference softball games last week, winning at Nampa, but losing at Kuna.

Mountain Home 10

Nampa 4

Mountain Home sent 13 batters to the plate in the first inning and scored eight runs on their way to a 10-4 win over the Nampa Lady Bulldogs in their SIC 4A conference softball opener at Nampa last Tuesday.

Nampa scored twice in the bottom of the first without the benefit of a hit to make it 8-2, Mountain Home. They got their first hits of the game off Ali Hillman in the fifth, when they scored two more runs. RBI singles by Sammy Dodge in the fourth and sixth accounted for Mountain Home's other runs.

"The girls played a nice game today," said Mountain Home Lady Tiger softball coach Joy Memmelaar. "We came out hitting and ready to go, then they kind of shut us down the rest of the game, but our girls maintained their composure and held them all the way out. They're all starting to come around and understand what they need to do. We made a couple of errors, but nothing that hurt and can't be fixed. They understand. They're a great group of kids!"

Sammy Dodge had three hits and three RBIs to lead the 12-hit attack. Ashley Kipp had three hits and scored three runs. Carmen Santy and Ali Hillman both had two hits, Santy had two RBIs, and Hillman stroked a double. Kim Hamilton had an two-run single, and Breann Christiansen also had a hit.

Ali Hillman went the distance to pick up her second win. She scattered four hits and struck out six and walked five.

Kuna 6

Mountain Home 1

The Lady Tigers faced Kuna last Thursday afternoon at Kuna and came up on the short end of a 6-1 contest.

Mountain Home had the bases full with no one out in the top of the second inning, but only scored once, with Ali Hillman coming home on Brei Draper's sacrifice.

Kuna took advantage of a walk, a double, a single and an error to score three runs in the bottom of the second and take a 3-1 lead. They added two more runs in the fifth, and one in the sixth. Kuna pitcher Brooke Judy struck out seven Lady Tigers in shutting them down the rest of the way.

"We made some base-running mistakes that were pretty costly," said Coach Memmelaar.

"We started out with the bases loaded (in the second) and ended up with just one runner scoring and the others getting out and not being very efficient with our base running, and then we didn't get any more runs in and made a few fielding errors that were costly at the time, and that's your ball game."

Mountain Home managed just four hits off Brooke Judy. Sammy Dodge had a double, and Ashley Kipp, Ali Hillman and Krista Gillaspy had singles.

Hillman pitched well for Mountain Home, limiting Kuna to just four hits and two earned runs. She struck out three and walked two.

The Lady Tigers were scheduled to play a doubleheader at Jerome last Saturday, but those games were canceled. No makeup date had been set at press time.
