Rost will seek coroner's post

Jerry Rost, owner of Rost Funeral Home in Mountain Home, has announced his candidacy for county coroner on the Republican ticket.

He will face incumbent Marla Spence in the May primary.

Rost was born in Wendell in 1951, and attended grade school and high school there, graduating in 1971.

In June of 1971, he moved to Boise to begin working for A. Dale McMurtrey in the funeral business. After completing his apprenticeship, he attended Los Angeles College of Mortuary Science in December 1973, returning to Boise December 1974.

Upon receiving his licences he began working for the late Hugh Phillips at White Funeral Home in Twin Falls and later for the late John Alsip of Alsip Funeral Home in Nampa.

He spent a couple of years in Washington state, returning to Boise in 1980, working again for A. Dale McMurtrey. In May of 1984, he decided to return to Washington state and began working at Mueller's Funeral Home in Kennewick and Pasco. He remained there for 12 years.

Rost was President of the Blue Mountain Funeral Directors Association in 1993 and 1994.

In 1996 Jerry and his wife, Jeanette, again returned to Idaho to manage McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home for eight years. The couple then decided to open their own business in Mountain Home, "Rost Funeral Home" in August 2004, and in September 2005, they purchased, with the help and support of his mentor and friends, A. Dale and Shirley McMurtrey , Summer's Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home. They changed the name to Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

It is in Mountain Home, he said that they have made their home "surrounded by wonderful people and a great sense of community."

Rost is a member of Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce, Mountain Home Military Affairs, Glenns Ferry Chamber of Commerce, BPOE Elks Lodge, Sons of the American Legion, and a committee and life time member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Ducks Unlimited.

His hobbies include fishing, hunting, rock hunting, and riding his ATV's. He enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Jerry and his wife, Janette, have three children and four grandchildren.
