The Mountain Home Tigers boys and girls golf teams competed in their first conference tourney of the season last Wednesday in Nampa.

The girls tourney was held at Broadmore in Nampa, and Caldwell, Bishop Kelly and Vallivue ran away with the girls competition. Caldwell, led by Andrea Haney, who took medalist honors with a 39, won the event with a score of 174. Bishop Kelly was two shots back at 176, and Vallivue one more back at 177. Skyview was a distant fourth at 242, Nampa shot a 261, and Mountain Home came in at 294.

Shantell Beasley led Mountain Home with a 56, which placed her 16th.

Princess Young shot a 78, Carlotta Vaughn was right behind her with a 79, and Kimi Hamaishi came in with an 81.

The boys played at Centennial Golf Course in Nampa, where Vallivue finished first, shooting a 155. Emmett was second, shooting a 162, besting Bishop Kelly by a stroke. Caldwell was fourth with a 168, followed by Skyview, 175, Nampa, 186, Kuna, 188, and Mountain Home, 191.

Nick Trueba and Ross Conte led Mountain Home, both shooting a 47. Monte Rinebold was a shot back at 48, Steven Bitrick carded a 49, and Brad Yagues came in with a 51.

Eric Gradzina led the Tiger JV squad, shooting a 45. Kyle Moore shot a 47, Adam Wenger, 48, Jake Ash, 53, and Ryan Hammer, 58.

"It was about as I expected," said Tiger golf coach Scott Mederios. "It started raining pretty hard up there and got cold and got dark on a couple of the guys, but you always have those first-game jitters as you get in the tee box with everybody watching, but I think now that we've got that first one behind us, I think we're going to be okay. We'll be able to compete with some of the schools. It's tough to compete with those schools that shoot par golf, but as far as everybody else goes, we'll be right with them."

The Tigers were in action Monday at Caldwell, the boys and girls both playing at Purple Sage, and the JV competition at Fairview in Caldwell. They go to Ridgecrest next Tuesday for a tourney hosted by Skyview.
