Brandon Sloan ran a career best time of 16:47.06 Saturday to finish seventh at the State 4A Boys Cross Country Meet at Eagle Island State Park.

Tiger team mate Scott Riley finished with a time of 18:06.86, which placed him 59th.

"The guys ran well," said Tiger cross country coach Doug Root of his two runners' efforts at state. "Brandon ended up beating four of the kids at state that had beaten him at district, and he improved his place from 16th last year to seventh place this year.

"Scott ran an 18:06, which was a good time. They both ran well. I'm pleased."

Licavalter Lima of Bishop Kelly won the 4A boys race in a time of 16:04.52. Bishop Kelly won both the boys and girls 4A State competition.
