Gene H. Crane, 89, of Glenns Ferry, died Monday, Aug. 22, 2005, at a local care facility in Mountain Home.

Viewing will be held Thursday, Aug. 25, from 2-4 p.m. at Rost Funeral Home in Mountain Home. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at Mountain View Cemetery in Pocatello. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home.

Gene was born Sept. 25, 1915, in Gray, Idaho, to Charles Ashley and Melvina (Call) Crane.

He lived in Pocatello and Twin Falls and in 1946 he moved to Glenns Ferry.

Gene married Athylie Wilcox on Dec. 28, 1935. Together they raised a niece, Kay Jean Crane Neeld, and a nephew, Robert L. Crane.

Gene worked for the Twin Falls Canal Co., and during the World War II for Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, Calif. He retired as a conductor from the Union pacific railroad.

Gene enjoyed ranching, horses, horse racing, was an avid sports man and a "great dancer."

He was a lifetime member of the Moose and United Transportation Union Old Timers.

Gene was active in the beginning of the Three Island Crossing in Glenns Ferry with his team of mules and wagon.

He is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife Athylie, one sister and five brothers.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
