Ruby Spang Horgan, 90, of Mountain Home, died Friday, Aug. 12, 2005, at a local hospital, with her family by her side.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 17, at the Mountain Home Elks Lodge # 2276. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home of Mountain Home.

Ruby was born June 9, 1915, along with her twin sister, Ruth, in Grand View, the daughter of Matt and Minnie Spang. She was raised and educated in Grand View.

She married the love of her life, Mike Horgan, on July 3, 1937, in Mountain Home. "Mike and Ruby were each others dance partner for the rest of their lives," her family noted.

Ruby was a member of the First Congregational Church, the Royal Neighbors of America, Eastern Star and the Elkettes.

"She was an avid collector of dolls and loved shopping," her family said. "Family and friends were often greeted at the door with the aroma of homemade breads and pies. She was a homemaker in the truest sense of the word. She made a house a home for her entire life and we are so thankful for that.

"She loved all of her grandchildren and enjoyed every moment spent with them. Besides her own family, she helped raise and shape the lives of the many children that she cared for. It was jokingly said that she potty trained half of the children in Mountain Home, many adults today will remember time spent on the 'Little Red Chair'."

Ruby is survived by: her daughters, Ruth McIntyre of Austin, Texas, Patsy Roberts of Caldwell, Betty Thompson and her husband, Ron of Mountain Home; her sons, Bob Horgan and his wife, Mary, of Mountain Home, Tom Horgan and his wife, Janet, of Mountain Home; her sister-in-law, Evelyn Edwards, of Mountain Home; her brother-in-law, Frank Horgan, of Colorado; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Mike, five brothers, three sisters, two sons, one daughter-in-law, and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial contribution may be made in Ruby's name to the Elkettes Club, 325 S. 3rd West St., Mountain Home, Idaho 83647.
