Ronald "Ron" J. Peterson, 73, of Mountain Home, died July 6, 2005, at a local care center.

At his request there will be no formal funeral services. A celebration of Ron's life will be held on Saturday, July 16, at 4 p.m. at the Sunset Sports Pub, 270 E. 4th North St., in Mountain Home. All friends are to join the family at that time for food and reminiscing.

Ron was born June 2, 1932, in Neola, Utah, to Voyd C. and Alice Peterson. Ron attended school in Bishop, Calif.

He later met and married Dion Clark and from that marriage came four children, Janine, Martin, John and Lisa. They had five grandchildren. They later divorced.

In 1967 he married Shirley Neal of Las Vegas and he had two stepchildren, Jack and Chris, and four step-grandchildren. They move to Mountain Home in 1975 and they were later divorced.

He left Mountain Home several times to work in various places. He worked as a miner/driller at the Union Carbide Mine in Bishop California and an underground driller at the Nevada test site. He also worked on the Alaskan pipeline as a driller during the building and the maintenance period of the pipeline.

He loved Mountain Home and after his retirement in 1995 he came back to live, where he enjoyed golfing, camping, hunting and spending time with his friends until the time of his death.

"He will be missed by all who knew him for his sense of humor and fun-loving ways," his family said.

Ron is survived by: his sons, Martin Peterson of Minnesota, and Johnny Peterson of Palm Springs, Calif.; two daughters, Janine and her husband, Bruce Kirby, of Reno, Nev., and Lisa and her husband, Joseph McCarthy, of Manchester, N.H.; two sisters, Ethel and Billie, and one brother, Richard; and 11 grandchildren.

Ron also had an extended family, DJ and Jacquie Johnson of Mountain Home and their two daughters, his family noted. "DJ and Jacquie considered Ron one of their family and were always there for him, right up until the time of his death. Along with family members and friends they took care of him and made the time he had with us much easier," the family said, thanking them for their caring.

Ron was preceded in death by both parents, one brother Robert (Bob) Peterson and two sisters Faye and Mary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, Mountain Home.
