Lady Tigers fall to Emmett, BK

Wednesday, December 22, 2004

Slow starts against Emmett and Bishop Kelly proved costly for the Lady Tigers, in SIC 4A conference losses last week.

Emmett 57

Mountain Home 44

The first and third quarters are Mountain Home's lowest in point production this season, and it definitely was the case Thursday night in the Lady Tigers' loss to Emmett.

The Lady Tigers found themselves down 23-6 after a quarter to Emmett, and trailed 41-19 at the half. Another six-point third quarter put the deficit at 51-25.

Mountain Home outscored the Lady Huskies, 19-6, in the final quarter, but it was too little, too late, as they came up short, 57-44.

"We were right in it -- it was 6-4 early -- and the next thing you know it was 20 to 6," said Mountain Home Lady Tiger coach Karen Kohring.

"They just took off and scored some transition baskets that mentally, those are the things that really hurt us. We can't figure out how to get that stopped, and the mental anguish that that causes is a carry over, but we put that aside and played three better quarters after that."

Michelle Reynolds led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 18 points, and she and Erica Stanton both had three steals to lead in that category.

Nicole Roelofs scored nine points, Katie Roelofs, eight, Kaleena Bluemer and Jessica Egusquiza both scored four, and Erin Mullen, one.

Egusquiza led the team in rebounds with seven, as the Lady Tigers out rebounded Emmett, 41-39.

Mountain Home shot 28 percent (13/45) from the field, including, including 25 percent (3/12) from long range, and shot 60 percent (15/25) from the charity stripe.

Emmett put the ball up 58 times and connected on 24 of them, for 41 percent. They hit just two of 12 (17 percent) on three pointers, and made seven of 15 (47 percent) from the free-throw line.

Mountain Home turned the ball over 31 times, but forced the Lady Huskies into 35 turnovers.

Bishop Kelly 79

Mountain Home 31

The Lady Tigers, who have been plagued by sickness, fell behind early, and were only able to put together one good quarter, as the Lady Knights rolled to a lopsided win at Bishop Kelly Friday night.

Bishop Kelly shot out to a 23-6 first quarter lead.

The Lady Tigers had their best effort in the second quarter, but trailed, 43-20, at halftime.

The Lady Knights outscored Mountain Home 36-11 in the second half to run away with it.

"They took it right at us," said Coach Kohring after the game.

"Their scoring per quarter is amazing, and what we're afraid of is that transition basket for them that is a mental crusher for us, and they got some early ones and really had us and we dug a hole tonight that we couldn't dig out."

Nicole Roelofs led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 10 points, including eight of 10 from the free-throw line.

Erica Stanton, Kaleena Bluemer and Paula Doerr each scored four points, Stanton and Doerr, both had three steals. Michelle Reynolds scored three points, Bethany Law, two, and Erin Mullen and Jessica Egusquiza each scored one point.

Mountain Home shot a frigid 18 percent form the field (7/40), and just one of 11 (9 percent) in three-point shots.

They shot well from the foul line, connecting on 16 of 21 for 76 percent.

Bishop Kelly was about as hot from the field as Mountain Home was cold, as they hit 32 of 61 shots (53 percent). They made three of 10 (30 percent) treys, and were 12 of 13 (92 percent) from the free-throw line.

Mountain Home's Lady Tigers end the first half of their season still looking for their first win after 10 games. They hosted Vallivue last (Tuesday) night, and host Jerome on Dec. 29.
