Mud Dawgs second at Optimist Bowl

Tuesday, November 2, 2004

The Trinity Mountain Family Practice Mud Dawgs may have been on the short end of a 22-6 contest to Meridian White in the Optimist Bowl 2004 Junior Division Championship, and the weather may have been wet and muddy, but that failed to dampen the Mud Dawg faithfuls who braved the elements to cheer their team on.

Meridian White scored twice in the second quarter to go up 14-0 at halftime, and added another score in the third quarter to lead 22-0.

The Mud Dawgs finally got in the end zone in the fourth quarter, Jordan Woodman scoring from 12 yards out.

That would end the scoring on the night for both teams, as Meridian White won the game, 22-6, to end a Trinity Mountain Family Practice win streak that had reached 14 over the past two years.

Trinity Mountain Family Practice rushed the ball 40 times for 134 yards, and passed for eight yards for 142 total yards. Jordan Gantt rushed the ball 21 times for 62 yards.

Deion Brown carried the ball 11 times for 54 yards.

Jordan Woodman had six rushes for nine yards and a touchdown, and Tyree Harmon had two rushes for nine yards.

Jordan Woodman completed one pass for eight yards, that to Jordan Gantt.

Meridian White rushed the ball 27 times for 126 yards, and completed one pass for seven yards, for 133 total yards.

This marked the second time in Mountain Home Optimist Football history that a Mountain Home team had reached the Optimist Bowl. The first time was in 1976, when a Mountain Home team of 12-year-olds made it to the Optimist Bowl.

This was the first time in Mountain Home Optimist Football history that a team of 11-year-olds had made it to the Optimist Bowl.

With the talent and coaching, the Trinity Mountain Family Practice Mud Dawgs could be back at the Optimist Bowl next year as 12-year-olds.
