Three killed in two accidents

Wednesday, September 15, 2004

A bloody Sunday on Elmore County roads left three people dead in two separate accidents, one on Highway 20 west of Little Camas and the other on I-84 at milepost 128.

The first fatal accident occurred at about 5 p.m. on Highway 20 when Remirgio Caloca, 52, of Greenleaf, driving a 93 Bonneville, sideswiped an empty horse trailer being pulled by a pickup driven by David Ray Ostolasa, 59, of Bruneau.

Coloca lost control of his vehicle, which then went off the road and rolled several times. He was dead at the scene.

Coloca's wife, Ignacia, 46, and a passenger, Moises Hernandez, 44, were taken by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

A few hours later, at about 9:30 p.m., a 2005 GMC Yukon driven by Reynaldo Segovia, 27, of Orem, Utah, was traveling westbouond on I-84 at milepost 128 when, for some unknown reason, it crossed into the eastbound lane of traffic.

Segovia's car was struck on the passenger door by a pickup driven by Dustin Huff, 19, of Los Lunas, New Mexico.

Both Segovia and an as yet unnamed male Hispanic passenger in his vehicle had to be extricated from their vehicles, but both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Huff was taken by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical center where he was treated for two broken legs and a posible minor head injury.

The accident, which caused both lanes of the interstate to be closed for more than an hour, remains under investi- gation by the Idaho State Police.
