Garcia's jersey to be retired

Wednesday, August 11, 2004

A special ceremony to retire MHHS girls soccer team jersey #24, worn by Teresa Garcia, will be held at 5:15 p.m. on Aug. 26 at the varsity soccer field just off 18th East Street.

Garcia was shot and killed earlier this year by a serial killer who had made a stop in Mountain Home on his crime spree across the Pacific Northwest, which eventually resulted in his own death after being cornered by authorities in Utah.

The 17-year-old would have been a senior this year. She had been a member of the varsity soccer team and her jersey will be retired in ceremonies before the team's first home game.

The team has decided that the entire season will be dedicated as a tribute to the young woman who had planned to dedicate her own life to the service of others.
