Eula "Mae" Simons, 66, of Glenns Ferry, died Aug. 3, 2004, at a Boise care center.

Funeral services were held Aug. 6 at the First Baptist Church in Mountain Home. Burial followed at Glenn Rest Cemetery in Glenns Ferry. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Demaray Funeral Service of Gooding.

Simons was born jan. 31, 1938, to Cecil and Lorraine Scott in Bentonville, Ark.

Her family noted that her "sense of family was unwavering when as a child she was given the responsibility of raising her sisters because their parents worked. Many stories of their life point to her sisters looking to her more as a mother than as a sister. As they grew older, they all became best friends."

She married William C. Simons on Jan. 4, 1958. They worked together as husband and wife in various places across the United States until settling in Glenns Ferry with their family in 1978, where Mae was employed by Diamond Laundry until 2003.

"Mae embraced the community of Glenns Ferry and its many wonderful people," her family said. "All who knew her became friends and neighbors.

"Mae was strong in her faith and was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was very active until her illness."

She is survived by: her sons, Scott (Christie) of Eagle, Mark (Connie) of Glenns Ferry, John of Battle Mountain, Nev., Matthew (Sandra) of Eagle; her sisters, Barbara Grever of Middleton, Donna (Joe) Brashears of Stanwood, Wash., and Kathy Saxton of Nampa; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mae was preceded in death by her husband, both her parents, and her sister, Lela Crawford.

The family requests that in liew of flowers donations be made to the Mountain States Tumor Institute.
