Rhead leads girls golf team

Mountain Home's Mallory Rhead continues to keep pace with the best of the district girls golfers.

The senior golfer finished a stroke behind Andrea Haney of Caldwell at an SIC 4A golf tournament at Purple Sage Golf Course in Caldwell on May 3. Haney was medalist, shooting a 37. Rhead tied for second with a 38.

Caldwell won the girls competition, shooting a 162 total. Bishop Kelly was second at 187, Vallivue third with a 190, and Kuna next with a 197. Mountain Home and Emmett did not field full teams.

Rhead's teammates Kylie Lippert and Carlotta Vaughn shot a 60 and 63 respectively.

Caldwell also won the boys competition, firing a 144 total, to edge Vallivue by three strokes. Bishop Kelly was in third place with a 153, Emmett came in at 165, Kuna, 172, and Mountain Home as last with a 177.

Mark Cowman of Caldwell was medalist, shooting a 32.

Shawn Griffin led Mountain Home with a 41, which tied him for 13th. Jeff Hawley and Mitch Thomas both came in with a 45, and Nick Trueba shot a 46.

Later in the week the Tiger golfers were at Cherry Lane Golf Course in Meridian for the Wally Lovan Invitational. Mountain View won the girls competition over the 18 holes of golf, shooting a 349 total.

Weiser was second at 368, followed by Kuna at 374, Borah, 383, Centennial and Skyview, both at 407, Nampa at 454, and Mountain Home, had a full team, coming in at 472.

Lauren Archer of Borah was medalist, shooting a 67.

Mallory Rhead finished fourth with a 75. Kylie Lippert and Carlotta Vaughn both came in at 124, and Rachel Duch carded a 149.

Mountain Home came in eighth out of nine teams in the boys competition at Cherry Lane, which was won by Eagle, with a 305 total. Centennial and Nampa both came in at 307, Mountain View shot a 308, followed by Meridian at 328, Weiser at 343, Kuna, 358, Mountain Home, 365, and Skyview, 391.

Joe Panzeri of Mountain View was medalist, shooting a 69. Nick Trueba led the Tiger golfers with an 87, which tied him for 25th. Shawn Griffin and Jeff Hawley both shot a 91, Mitch Thomas came in at 96, and Lane Short had a 101.

The Tiger boys and girls golfers were back at Purple Sage on Monday for the district golf tourney.
