Tennis team still struggling

Mountain Home dropped home conference tennis matches to Emmett and Vallivue last week.

The Tigers hosted the Huskies last Monday, and took two of three boys singles matches, but could not pull off any other wins on the day.

Drew White topped Emmett's Kip Buck 6-0, 6-2 in the number one boys singles match.

"Drew played well," said Tiger tennis coach Phil McCluskey. "That's only the second time he's won the first set this year."

Chris Ouellette dropped a close 3-6, 4-6 match to Keith Adams in the number two boys singles.

"Chris was down 1-4 in the second set and battled back to 4-5, only to ultimately lose the close one, 4-6." said Coach McCluskey.

Hiroto Kaneko battled past Kevin Adams, 6-4, 7-5 to win the number three boys singles.

Julie Remington lost the number one girls singles match, 1-6, 1-6 to Lori Danser. Laura Lothrop lost to Teianna Mabe 1-6, 3-6, in number two girls singles, and Cami Pachner fell to Heather Roach 4-6, 1-6 in number three girls singles.

"Cami Pachner, a freshman, stepped into her first varsity line-up and performed well," said McCluskey.

In girls doubles, Jessica Hoover and Mary Booth were shut out by Andrea Bjorkman and Ashley Vogler, 0-6, 0-6, and Bianca Arbuckle and Ashley Durand lost to Andrea Weissenbuehler and Karissa Mendenhall, 1-6, 0-6.

Mountain Home forfeited the number one boys doubles match, and Taylor Acuff and Thomas Martin lost to Sean Beckman and Clint Vickery, 1-6, 0-6.

In mixed doubles, Josh Lewis and Laura Rush lost to Dustin Charters and Ericka Weissenbuehler, 1-6, 0-6, and Phillip Roemer and Brianna White lost 1-6, 4-6 to Shaun Savage and Mariel Barrus.

Vallivue 12

The Tigers were shut out by Vallivue Thursday in their final home match of the season.

The boys singles matches were all close, with Drew White losing to Ben Richner, 4-6, 5-7 in the number one singles, Chris Ouellette lost 1-6, 6-7 (5-7) to Nick Batt in number two singles, and Hiroto Kaneko lost 4-6, 4-6 to Vallivue's Shawn Cafferty in the number three singles match.

In girls singles, Jessica Hoover lost the number one singles match to Katie Combs, 0-6, 0-6. Julie Remington lost to Amber Steinman, 3-6, 0-6, and Laura Lothrop lost to Jessyka Peterson, 0-6, 1-6.

In girls doubles, Laura Rush and Mary Booth were shut out 0-6, 0-6 by Briana Cornwell and Megan Lewin, and Bianca Arbuckle and Ashley Durand lost 1-6, 0-6 to Tara Wensel and Kelly Grady.

In boys doubles, Mountain Home forfeited the number one match, and Josh Lewis and Phillip Roemer lost 1-6, 1-6 to Wentz Wensel and Spencer Jahn.

In mixed doubles, Kevin Lee and Brianna White were shut out 0-6, 0-6 by Kevin Tucker and Bailey Wilson, and Zach Fischer and Lindsay Horgan lost 1-6, 1-6 to Alex Anderson and Catalina Goria.

The Tigers open District III 4A tennis action tomorrow (Thursday) through Saturday in Caldwell.
