The Mountain Home Lady Tigers softball team is still looking for its first win of the young season, after dropping three games last week.

A five-run fourth inning broke open a close game last Thursday as the Mountain Home Lady Tigers opened their softball season at home against Meridian.

The Lady Tigers picked up four hits in the game, but scored just one run, as they left eight runners on base for the game.

"We made quite a few mental errors in the game today," said Lady Tiger coach Joy Memmelaar after the game. "We could have had a lot more outs and a few less runs. Meridian hit the ball really well, and we just didn't help out a whole lot. We started to hit the ball towards the end, but right at people and they made some great catches. Just little things -- nothing that can't be fixed."

Paula Doerr, Krista Gorman, Michelle Reynolds and Des Walden had hits for Mountain Home, with Ali Hillman knocking in the Lady Tigers lone run.

Hillman went the distance on the mound for Mountain Home, striking out five and walking three, giving up just three hits.

Shay Craig threw a no-hitter against the Lady Tigers at Timberline last Friday. A five-run first inning gave Craig more than enough runs for the win.

Michelle Reynolds suffered the loss for Mountain Home, but pitched well, striking out one and giving up eight hits.

"The girls' defense was really good," said Coach Memmelaar of the Timberline game. "We had quite a few hard hits that got caught by Timberline. Overall, we were really pleased with how the girls played. They looked much better than the first game."

The Lady Tigers watched victory elude them Saturday afternoon at Mountain View in Meridian, as the Lady Mavericks scored three runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning to win the game.

Mountain View scored three runs in the second inning off Ali Hillman to take a 3-0 lead. Hillman set them down after that, and helped her cause with a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth to put Mountain Home up 5-3.

The Lady Mavericks got two doubles off Hillman in the bottom of the seventh. The second one, by Aarika Wisely, plated two, including the game-winner.

"That was a great game and the girls played really well," said Coach Memmelaar after the game.

"We said in the beginning that we wanted to put our fielding and our defense and our offense together, and they came through. I couldn't ask for anything more from the girls, it was an awesome game. I'm really proud of the girls. They had a beautiful game today!"

Mountain Home out-hit the Lady Mavericks 9-6. Ali Hillman had two hits and four RBIs. Christa Stanton had two hits and an RBI, and Paula Doerr also had two hits. Michelle Reynolds had a double, and Krista Gorman and Jessica Despres also had hits.

The Lady Tigers were home against Capital yesterday (Tuesday) and travel to Middleton to face the Lady Vikings this afternoon.
