Helmi Johanna Hadley, 93, of Boise, formerly of Mountain Home, died Dec. 6, 2003, in a Boise hospital.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 12, in the Boise 16th Ward LDS Chapel. Graveside services followed on Saturday at Swan Lake Cemetery, Swan Lake, Idaho. Arrangements were under the direction of Zeyer Funeral Chapel, Nampa.

Helmi was born July 22, 1910, in Merikarvia, Finland, to Hendrik William and Amanda Sofia Lindberg Maki, the fourth of ten children. At 9 months of age Helmi and her family immigrated to Markham, Minn., where she was raised and educated.

An adventurous spirit took her to California where she and her friend, Dean, owned and operated Heldea's Diner on Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey, Calif. They married July 12, 1947, in Reno, Nev. In 1954, they were blessed with a daughter Anna Deane. A few years later Helmi was taught the gospel and was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In 1959, they moved to Mountain Home, and later they bought a farm in Hammett. They also owned and operated restaurants in the area.

On July 21, 1961, the family was sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. In 1988 Dean and Helmi went on a Temple Mission to the Dallas Temple.

Her husband, Dean, died Oct. 5, 1992, at which time she moved to Boise to be close to her family.

Survivors include: her daughter, Anna Burningham and her husband, Tod; two grandchildren; and four brothers, Elias, Eero, Eino and Howard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers and one sister.
