Lady Tigers set to open season

Wednesday, November 12, 2003

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers open their 2003-2004 girls basketball season with home games this Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Tigers go to Rimrock tonight for a Y.E.A. Jamboree with Rimrock and Glenns Ferry.

Mountain Home went 1-21 last year in Karen Kohring's first year as head coach, but ended the season on a positive note at district.

"We ended the season on a fairly high note," said, Coach Kohring, "and the girls that played Summer ball took it from there. We just need to make a new season and play hard."

Kohring indicated Mountain Home fans will see some new looks this season.

"We've got good attitudes out there right now, and we've put in some things over the summer. We hope to create a good fast-break transition game. I want to get up and down the floor, and I think we have the speed that we can do that.

"We have some of our big players that can be dominating for us, but they need to step up, and overall, team-wise, we need to prove to ourselves that we can win, and win on a nightly basis.

"There's no where to go but up from our record of last year. That was a terrible record and we don't want to be in that situation again, and it's just a matter of building the confidence and play hard. There's no days off, we can't slide at all. We've got to work hard day in and day out."

The Lady Tigers will play a half (two eight- minute quarters) against both Glenns Ferry and Rimrock at tonight's jamboree.

The tentative schedule has the Lady Tigers taking on Glenns Ferry at 6:45 p.m. tonight, with Rimrock and Glenns Ferry squaring off at about 7:30 p.m., and then Mountain Home and Rimrock going at it at about 8:15 p.m.

Friday night the Lady Tigers open their season at home against 5A power Boise, and Saturday night another 5A power, Centennial, will be at Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium to face the Lady Tigers.

Sophomore action starts at 4:30 p.m., followed by J.V. action at 6:15 p.m., with the varsity games scheduled to tip off around 8 p.m. each night.

The Lady Tigers go to Meridian on Tuesday, and are home against Wood River next Thursday night, and go to Nampa on Nov. 22.
