Former resident murdered in Boise

Wednesday, October 9, 2002

A young woman shot in the head at a Taco Bell in Boise last Friday, and her boyfriend who was present at the time, are both former residents of Mountain Home.

The 20-year-old woman, who was currently living in Caldwell, died Tuesday of her wounds. She was identified as Penny Moore. The Mountain Home News has learned the name of her boyfriend, but is withholding it at present at the request of the Boise Police Department, due to the ongoing investigation in the case.

Both the woman and her boyfriend are recent graduates of Mountain Home High School.

Moore was shot once in the forehead with a .25 caliber handgun while she was sitting in a car at the Taco Bell fast-food restaurant on Broadway at about 10:35 p.m. Friday night. Her boyfriend had apparently gone into the restaurant when the shooting took place. He found her bleeding from the head wound when he returned to the car. He told police he panicked and began driving toward the hospital before he stopped at the Mister Carwash at Broadway and Boise Avenues before calling police.

Moore was shot through a closed passenger side window. Police believe only one shot was fired. They reported Moore owned a .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun that had reportedly been missing for several days, but it is not known if that weapon was tied to the shooting. Boise police have not recovered the weapon and are asking citizens who may have any knowlege of the incident to call them.

As part of the standard procedure in the investigation, Boise police have done local background checks on the boyfriend, who had been well known to local police before he moved from this area, but Boise police have not identified him as a suspect in the case.
