Hicks named homecoming queen

As her proud father, Kent, stood smiling beside her, Erin Hicks was crowned Homecoming Queen during halftime ceremonies Friday night at Tiger Field.

Joining her on the podium were the other candidates, Cali Crawford, Launa Ketterling and Chelsea Shields, each escorted by either their father or their mother.

Selected as Homecoming King earlier in the day, during the Homecoming Assembly, was Tanner Wing. The other candidates were Josh Grimmett, Aaron Hofer and James Mazowieski.

At the Homecoming Dance, the remainder of the court was filled out, with Marissa Black selected as Junior Princess and Tyler Zamora as Junior Prince. Sloan Grimmett was named the Sophomore Duchess and Kyle Hittle the Sophomore Duke. On a cool night Friday a full crowd at Tiger stadium watched the varsity football team fall to the Emmett Huskies, which overpowered the junior-dominated Tiger team 28-7.

At the homecoming assembly Friday the seniors won the skit competition, while the juniors placed first in the window decorating competition.

Rhonda Faulkner won the spirit stick for the seniors, Travis Stanek the spirit stick for the juniors, Keoni Nelson the sophomore spirit stick, and the staff spirit stick was presented to Kelli Christiansen, who works in the front office at the high school.

Throughout the week, the school was filled with activities and dress-up days. Monday, students dressed as their favorite rap star, Tuesday was Disco Day, Wednesday was Country Western Day, Thursday was Punk Rock Day and Friday was the traditional Tiger Day in which students dressed in the school colors or Orange and Black.

The parade Friday, which worked its way downtown in the afternoon and was followed later that evening with a snake dance through the city, lasted well over half an hour.

Earlier in the week the senior boys defeated the junior girls in the Macho Man volleyball contest, and the senior girls swept past the junior girls to win the Powder Puff (flag) Football Game, an event that also features some of the school's young men dressing up as cheerleaders.
