Submitting news for paper or website

What is your policy for submitting news items?
We are eager to serve the community and provide your news to the public. You can stop by our office, fax or email your news items.

For the print publication, send to Kelly Everitt at keveritt@mountainhomenews.com.

For the website, send to Joy Martinez at jmartinez@mountainhomenews.com. or use the forms section on the front page to submit your items.

To avoid confusion and provide equity in our coverage, the following policy guidelines have been adopted concerning what we will accept and what we won't accept. In general, stories should involve people who currently are residents of Elmore County or eastern Owyhee County.

All submissions should have a phone number and/or email address provided so that we may contact someone if we need additional information.

At least one member of the couple must be a resident of Elmore County, or their parents must be a resident of the county. Wedding announcements will be accepted up to four months from the date of the wedding. Engagement announcements should be no earlier than within one year of the projected date of the wedding.

Birth Announcements
Birth announcements are obtained from Elmore Memorial Hospital. Those who wish to have their announcement printed must sign a form indicating such. Births that did not occur at Elmore hospital, but which involve parents who are residents of Elmore County or eastern Owyhee County (only) may be submitted directly to the newspaper.

Obituaries
Obituaries are run free of charge as news stories in the Mountain Home News. We reserve the right to edit all submissions to conform to news style. Obituaries will be accepted if the individual lived, at any time, in Elmore County and the Bruneau/Grand View area of eastern Owyhee County, or the Duck Valley Indian Reservation, or had a substantial impact on the county through community service. Obituaries will be accepted up to one month from the time of death. We do not run poetry. We list the number of grandchildren (etc.) but not their names.

School Honors and Awards
School honors and awards, such as graduations and honor roll lists, normally are submitted by the appropriate schools. The Mountain Home News will print any such story provided the person being honored, or their parents, are residents of Elmore County or eastern Owyhee County. In some cases, students at colleges mark a box at registration indicating a privacy request. Those names normally are not submitted by the school. They will be accepted directly from the individual or that person's parents at the news office.
