  • Ultimately we (tax payers) are caught in a power struggle between the teachers union and the state legislature. Although I don't agree totally with Superintendant Luna's plan the only other option proposed is to continue business as usual. And I don't know about you but I for am tired of seeing our students fall further and further behind the rest of the world without trying something.

For the last 15 - 20 years all we've heard is how American students are not keeping pace with other countries. The only answer I've personnally heard from the teacher's union is pay us more money and your students will be better taught. I don't know about you but if I tell my employer that I'm only going to half way meet his expectations unless he pays me more money I'll be out of a job tomorrow. But then again I don't have "Tenure". Don't get me wrong, we have some outstanding teachers in our district but we also have some dead weight.

I also believe that we (tax payers and parents) need to have some say as to whether a teacher is doing their job.
