  • I hope you don't mind, but I would like to mention another observance that is happening Saturday night at Gowen Field in Boise. It is a great time every year and this year it is going to be bigger and better than ever. I have attached the flier information here for anyone who may be interested.

    You are cordially invited to attend our Open House AND Celebration of Veterans.

    Gates open at 5:30, kick-off at 6:30

    Ever wished YOU could fire a Civil War Cannon?

    You will have the opportunity to actually fire a Civil War cannon! Tickets will be $25.00.

    Weapons from the Revolutionary War to the present will be on display and demonstrated.

    Idaho Civil War Volunteers will be demonstrating weapons and tactics of the conflict and also fire M1857 Napoleon 12-pounder guns.

    WWII Reenactors will be demonstrating small arms of that conflict along with two M1A1 75mm Pack Howitzers and an M-1897 75mm Field Gun.

    Members of the Idaho Air and Army National Guard, and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve will demonstrate weapons from the Cold War through the present Global War on Terrorism.

    The Sleekit Beasties Bag Pipe Band will perform through out the evening and provide music for the closing ceremony - a special tribute to Idaho但*申*申s fallen in the Global War on Terrorism.

    Also joining us will be:

    Bill Heath, IMHS member and local author will be on hand to autograph copies of his book The 148th Field Artillery Story World War II.

    Gayle Alvarez, IMHS member and local author will be on hand to autograph copies of her book Idaho但*申*申s Men of Valor, Medal of Honor Recipients with Idaho Attachments.

    INTERIOR MUSEUM DISPLAYS beginning at 12:00 PM will include:

    Idaho Automatic Weapons Collectors Association and Idaho Civil War Volunteers

    displaying military weapons from Revolutionary War to the present.

    Boise Valley POW/MIA Group will be on hand to discuss their organization and activities.

    Other items of interest: Boise Chapter, Idaho Sea Cadets will be providing parking assistance and assisting the IMHS staff. Hot Chocolate will be available for purchase at a nominal price.

    Limited bleacher seating will be available. Personal lawn chairs,earplugs and stadium blankets are highly recommended.

    HOW TO GET TO THE IDAHO MILITARY HISTORY MUSEUM:

    The Museum is located on Gowen Field but the access is from Harvard Street.

    Take the Orchard Street Exit (Exit #52) on I-84. Turn south and continue on

    Orchard. Follow the BROWN signs; they will lead you right to the Museum.

  • I understand the significance of having the ceremony at 11 am: eleventh hour, eleventh day, eleventh month... I am so very sorry but we can't make it at that time.
