Honoring all who serve
Veteran's Day ceremonies this year will be especially important with our nation at war.
It is a time to honor all those who have worn the uniform of the armed forces of the United States, both in the past and the present, and to offer a special thanks on behalf of a grateful nation to those who have given their lives in its service.
Today, anyone who wears the uniform is a volunteer, and in some ways that makes their service even more special. They have chosen to join (or re-enlist in) the military at a time of greatest personal danger. As this war has dragged on, now longer than WWII, the vast majority of the men and women in our armed forces have been deployed to war zones and all have been involved in the support of those who have deployed.
We've lost more than 3,850 men and women in this conflict, but all who have served during this time have demonstrated a determination and competence that must be admired by all Americans, regardless of what each citizen believes about the value of the war. Because the service of these men and women, in both war and peace, has enormous value. They are some of our very best.
This Sunday, we urge you to attend the ceremonies honoring our veterans at the cemetery at 11 a.m., or to offer special prayers for the safety and well being of all service members in uniform today, and prayers of thanks for all those who have served in the past.
