  • This is the warfare of the future, and just as with all the other conventions, civilized behavior will be shown only by the civilized. What we need to do is to employ the best hackers to make our systems safe from attack.

  • I just wonder if Obama thinks this is just "vandalism", what is it going to take to have a label of terrorism? Just worries me that they can hack into defense systems, drones, & anything else the military has connected to the internet, which nowadays is probably every piece of equipment including systems that the troops rely on in a theater of war. I feel our government needs to wake up & realize this very well could be a test run. To see a major corporation like Sony to become so exposed & internal sensitive info released & stored for their entertainment & the lack of response & action a month later. Our government better wake up & be proactive, not reactive. Just my simple opinion.

Yeah Murder , how many lives must be lost in by South Korean and American troops before something is done about this two-bit dictator?? Are we waiting till they finally Nuke Us or our ALLIES before we actually put an end to their VANDALISM??? Good Grief I hope not.

  • Just what do you suggest? A Bush style pre-emptive strike? And just what do you propose to do about China and Russia who would be drawn in?

  • Junkyard dog, I think that we tried getting rid of North Korea about 60 years ago. That didn't work out too well. Also, just because a country has a bad dictator doesn't mean that you wipe out the country.

stoutcwby, Obama is as usual taking his time and planning an appropriate, measured response. He is not a shoot from the hip POTUS. On the proactive not reactive comment, proactive actions for this type of cyber badness is limiting people's personal freedoms and increased government spending. We can't have it both ways.

  • I almost forgot something.

Kelly when you said "The laws of war need to be expanded and clarified for this new form of battlefield" I was baffled.

If you are talking about the Geneva convention, we didn't follow it when we tortured war prisoners.

A good link for the "laws of war" is

    http://avalon.law.yale.edu/subject_menus/lawwar.asp

so good luck on finding any effective "law" in there. Effective would be that all countries follow the law.

  • My point exactly Sam.

  • I guess you haven't heard the latest news. They are now fairly sure the hack included an insider and a hack group not affiliated with the North Koreans. I you had your way, World War 3 would have started and ended by now. Out of curiosity, what does the state of the Russian economy have to do with anything????

They have nukes and Putin is crazy enough to use them.
