  • I have to concur with your views on holiday creep. I woke up this morning, turned on the computer, and read the headline that a major retail store is opening at 6:00AM on Thanksgiving morning for 41 hrs straight.

I can't believe these stores are so greedy that they have to be open on a major holiday. I prefer to give my money to those retailers who remember what the holidays are about and instill and respect family values. There is a reason those holidays became "holidays" in the first place.

As much blame as I want to place on the retailers for ruining the holidays of their employees, it makes me more frustrated that holiday shoppers are encouraging these stores to act in this fashion. The stores and shoppers are enabling each other to fall into the evil trap of money and greed.

As for the "big box" retailer, I took my Halloween decorations down on Nov 1st and went to that store to buy a new Fall harvest wreath to put on my front door and some other decorations to ring in the Thanksgiving season and there is none to be had!!!!! These were not bought out nor were they moved to a clearance section, but rather they just took them off the shelves to bring in the Christmas stuff! How disappointing.

I'm with you on celebrating the seasons one at a time and not one before the previous one ends. The season time frame is even idiot proof! It begins with a 1 and ends with a 28, 29, 30, or 31 and each season is defined with the name of a month. The Halloween season could be defined as October 1 - 31. What a simple concept.

Please, everyone, just say NO to holiday creep!

  • It's just free enterprise. You wouldn't want to legislate businesses and when they are open and what they advertise would you?

  • If we don't buy, they will get the message eventually. I am all for capitalism, but quite frankly, they have had Halloween Supplies on the shelf from July to August. Christmas got scooched in some time at the end of August in some stores. And they were even playing Christmas music!

Thanksgiving is our family's biggest holiday and I can remember seeing the Christmas displays in the store windows when we were traveling to Grandma's house. The night before Thanksgiving.

I agree with you totally Kelly on this.

  • I'm buying. It's good for the economy to prolong the buying seasons.
