Note: The nature of the Internet makes it impractical for our staff to review every comment. Please note that those who post comments on this website may do so using a screen name, which may or may not reflect a website user's actual name. Readers should be careful not to assign comments to real people who may have names similar to screen names. Refrain from obscenity in your comments, and to keep discussions civil, don't say anything in a way your grandmother would be ashamed to read.
  • I can see your point in all this, but I will take exception that it is the bloggers who seem to know everything. Instead, I would suggest that it is those who comment on said blogs without really wanting a healthy debate or to offer support.

It it commonly known that these individuals act mean spirited or hide under false names. A few even ressurect themselves after being banned by finding another way to keep something going that was never there to start with.

I don't think that we ever consider how a family of someone who "makes" the news feels as their loved one good or bad is splashed across the TV screen or makes the upper fold of a newspaper for days on end.

Thank you Kelly for your explanation.

  • Kelly, I suppose that police reports would be good sources of information but sometimes they get things wrong.

I've noticed "mean spirited" comments from both bloggers and the commenters on the blogs. Sometimes a blogger is a commenter. You were right to remove the comments and prevent more comments from being added for the reasons that you listed.

That being said, it sounds like comments are frequently zapped on the blogs without a reason given and then it looks like people are talking to themselves. Just a suggestion but I'm wondering if there is a better way to communicate that?

  • We must also remember the readers didn't know it was an error when it was left open for discussion.

    I apologize for my post!

  • Since the information was so limited why was the suspect shown in the headlines?
