In order for a 22 day furlough to equal a 20% pay cut, the employees would only be working 110 days a year.

The only "employees" I know with that light a work schedule are the members of Congress.

  • No one wants to give up their favorite "dog". Therefore, we have an entire Government who cannot devise a workable budget because someone's favorite dog will get left out in the cold.

This isn't about Tea Parties or Democrats/Republicans. It is about a select few living high on the hog with our tax dollars and pretending that they are really trying to represent the American People.

I pointed out a problem I saw with the math behind Mr. Everitt's blog. I did not say anything about this being a single solution issue.

To clarify my comment, there are 229 days between tomorrow and the end of the Federal fiscal year (Sept. 30). Since most civilian positions are 5 day work weeks, that leaves 163 working days. From a purely mathematical viewpoint, 22 furlough days between now and Sept. 30 would amount to around a 13% holdback in civilian employee payments. That also pretty much takes care of the "60 day notice" contention, wouldn't you say? (Could that explain why your research yeilded no results?)

The fact that a portion of the budget period is gone does make it necessary to withhold more money from REMAINING expenditures, but the sequestration IS a 10% ACROSS THE BOARD budget cut. PERIOD!

Singling out ANY proposed cut based on faulty contentions goes against my grain. Always has, always will.

    P. S.

I forgot to take out the four remaining federal holidays, which would make the 22 days closer to 14% (13.8).

  • A....I have been around long enough to see the kinda cuts your talking about.....it lasts about 2 years and then somebody says we have had enough.

The sequester doesnt bother me either because the congress imposed that on themselves and then sat on there hands.THAT'S THERE BABY AND THEY NEED TO FIX IT. Nobody wants a cut in there district I have been following the hearing's and debates. To bad, I dont want my taxes being raised but that happened,so fix it.Personally based on the amount of work they didnt get done I WOULD CUT THERE PAY AT LEAST 10% FROM LAST YEAR .I BET THAT WOULD GET THEM MOVING.
