Resolutions for Congress

Posted Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at 8:38 AM

It's time for some resolutions for the coming new year.

We resolve that the word "compromise" will once again be an important part of the political lexicon.

We resolve that Congress will strive for the "art of the possible," rather than ideological purity and partisan power gamesmanship.

We resolve that Congress will actually put the small-town Main Street businessman and the middle-class wage earner at the top of their priority list, rather the corporate and individual fat cats that fund their re-election campaigns.

We ask that both parties find somebody else. Nobody's thrilled with the incumbent president and the GOP field of challengers is a bad joke. The only people happy with the options we've got now are the late-night TV talk-show hosts and their gag writers.

We ask that both the nation's Congress and the Idaho legislature actually think about what they're doing. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the implications of some of the decisions they make, but somehow the average Joe seems to see them much clearer that our elected "officials."

We know, that's asking a lot, but these are New Year's resolutions after all.

For what it's worth, Mr. Bondy, I feel good that you lost the election also. Good for you, that is. Like that poor man who lost the coin toss for the local school board position...now that he's a board member, he needs to start planning on a way to earn back his dignity and self-respect.

Pearls before swine, Mr. Bondy...they have no idea what you could have brought to the table; they only saw someone who wanted to tear down fences between those who wish to erect bulwarks of ignorance to defend themselves from thoughful solutions.

OK Buckshot: this is the last post ever directed to on this website. I'll take them to my own website where you can respond with your real name and identity. That way we are both on equal footing. So here goes...

1. I'm glad I lost the election also. Why? Rude and obnoxious people. And the veiled and not so veiled threats I received is another reason. The "golf course issue" threats were actually scary. But I'm sure these shenanigans had nothing to do with you. Just the people who want all Mountain Home taxpayers to pay a portion of each round of golf they play. Being a "fiscal conservative" that you claim to be, I'm sure you advocate "users" must pay the entire cost to play golf including the $200K a year payment?

So yeah, I'll leave local politics to the people who wish to totally ignore important issues and tackle the heavy issues like who gets a transient business license.

2. My answer that "I'm on the side of whoever can solve problems" is a non-answer? Well, I'm sure your answer that "it's no longer partisan politics; it's capitalism against socialism" will work for this country.

Enough said Buckshot61? See you on my website or not. I'm sure I'll find some time to address your viewpoints in the coming weeks.

Buckshot...you asked what side am I on? I'm on the side that wants to solve our problems.

Well Said Mr. Everitt. Our Federal, and to some extent our State government is so intent on partisan politics they can't see the forest for the trees. I doubt 2012 will be the year when the politicians step out of the forest but we can keep our fingers crossed.

This is not his personal blog nor does it appear to be his sole, personal "opinion" as it states "WE." This is a regular portion of the paper. Sometimes Kelly even feels important enough to take up 2 spots...but one each week for sure! Who is this "WE" Kelly that you always refer to when you write?

"We resolve..."

"We resolve..."

"We resolve..."

"We ask..."

"We ask..."

"We know..."

Is there a mouse in your pocket Kelly?

MrBuckshot61 & CJW, Very good points in all your posts. People on the right are tired of the left leaning media and all their skewed headlines. All the water carrying for the left by the media has a major impact on elections. Brent Bossell (SP) used to keep lists of their one-sided approach to news reporting and still does I guess.

Well Mike, a very intelligent post. Well thought out. Come Nov., for the most part, our choices stink. It is my sincere hope that the changes that are hoped for by most do not result in a bloody civil war. As you have seen before I have expressed interest in Newt, but I'm working on a blog that has changed my mind completely. I really do hope that even people who disagree with me will take the time to read it.

Happy New Year to all.

Nothing immature about my statements. If you don't like the way the paper is run, buy it and run it as you see fit.

Buckshot, I respectfully disagree with you. A man's occupation should have no bearing on his right to state his opinions. If you and others have such a real problem with him having a blog or how he titled it, I suggest you take it up with the Publisher who IS his boss. If you have, and they choose not to act, then you know what they think of your opinion.

Free enterprise and Capitalism, isn't it great! Maybe you should look into buying this publication if you and others are so unhappy.

-- Posted by lamont on Wed, Dec 28, 2011, at 7:30 PM

Once again, this is a blog site, not the editorial page of a newspaper. What's so hard to understand about that?

-- Posted by royincaldwell on Wed, Dec 28, 2011, at 5:19 PM

-- Posted by lamont on Wed, Dec 28, 2011, at 1:42 PM

CJW, so what if he is the Managing Editor? Is he the Publisher? The Owner? His job title doesn't mean he cant post his thoughts on a blog. Here in blogdom, he is just another citizen with an opinion. When he writes an editorial that you don't like, that becomes a whole different issue, and if you don't like his point of view, you can take it up with his employer.

-- Posted by royincaldwell on Wed, Dec 28, 2011, at 1:26 PM

Just a question? Was this blog published as an editorial in the printed edition?

If it wasn't, then most of your rants CJW, hold no merit. Kelly's private views posted on a blog have nothing to do with NEWS, or his job. They are opinions only.

-- Posted by royincaldwell on Wed, Dec 28, 2011, at 1:07 PM

OKAY, as long as you look both ways FIRST1

That's what my folks used to say before they'd send me off to play in the street with the rest of the kids....

LOL

I TRUSTED they weren't sending me out to get run over....

Or were they (?????)

-- Posted by wh67 on Wed, Dec 28, 2011, at 11:25 AM

Being the editor authorizes him to write editorials - now called blogs. I don't have a problem with that.

I do have a problem with the word "compromise". Coming from Obama's mouth it means that the opposition should roll over and automatically accept the democrat's viewpoint.

At one time it was to meet in the middle and talk about the problem and come to a resolution. Now it seems the middle has moved and if the republicans don't come to the democrats house and agree with that viewpointm, the republicans refuse to comproprise.

-- Posted by oldcoot on Wed, Dec 28, 2011, at 10:12 AM

No matter how you change those two lines around it still comes out, "the GOP candidates are a joke and Obama's Rating is climbing up up and up"

NOTE:

I get it you don't like my opinion, you will disagree but there is no need to respond

Morning brother.

-- Posted by royincaldwell on Wed, Dec 28, 2011, at 9:25 AM

CJW, as has been pointed out before, this is Kelly's personal blog and personal opinion. Seems that having an opinion different than yours is a bad thing.

-- Posted by royincaldwell on Wed, Dec 28, 2011, at 9:25 AM

SO....THE MAN SAYS BOTH NEED TO GO AND THAT IS NOT ENOUGH????????? I guess he should have endorsed the GOP And then everything would be fine. They both stink is what is being said and that is happening from california to iowa.Whats the problem??????????."LIBERAL IDIOTS"..... THERE ARE FEW NAMES FOR THE CONSERVATIVES CONSIDERING THERE LATEST STATMENTS BUT NOBODY CALLING ANYONE NAMES HERE ......I THOUGHT

-- Posted by lamont on Wed, Dec 28, 2011, at 9:22 AM
