Torture isn't our stylePosted Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at 11:43 AM
Some former Bush administration officials, from VP Dick Cheney on down, are screaming bloody murder over President Obama's decisions to not only ban torture as a means of interrogation, but to release details of the memos and techniques they were using during the Bush years.
They claim it threatens national security and not a one is apologetic about using torture. They're wrong on both counts. First, the use of torture has, at best, limited rewards. In most cases, the victim will tell interrogators whatever they want to hear in order to stop it. That doesn't mean what they're saying is accurate. And all the information they allegedly got hasn't turned into convictions in the special tribunals they set up, which allowed information obtained in torture to be used. So its value can't be anywhere near what they're claiming. And a good interrogator doesn't need it in the first place. But most importantly, and this is the point these guys just don't seem to ever get, is that this country is supposed to stand for something. It is supposed to stand for our efforts to seek the highest levels of the ideals of man. We are supposed to set the standard and serve as the example to all other nations. Unfortunately, those former officials dragged us down to the level of the Saddam Husseins and Kim Jong-Ils of the world. But the ends rarely justify he means. Instead, the means usually exemplify the ends. We are better than that, both as a people and as a nation. Obama seems to understand that, and is attempting to restore our position as the standard-bearer for the world, and remove the black eye the previous administration gave us. -- Kelly Everitt Comments Showing most recent comments first [Show in chronological order instead] |

That's not the report I got, Small Town, but thanks for the info.
Bazookaman,
Sarah Palin is taking all but 1/3 of the stimulus money and according to the Anchorage Daily times which is copy and pasted below looks like she may change her mind if she gets her way.
Palin has balked at taking one-third of it, including money for schools, energy assistance and social services.
Palin now says she'll accept the federal money if the Legislature agrees to use some of it to replace state spending. For example, she wants to cut 93 million state dollars that would go to schools -- and then award the schools that same amount in federal stimulus money to make up the difference.
Yeah, I guess we don't want to upset anybody on the left. I was in Vietnam when that "helicopter interrogation" happened. Don't know if you ever heard of it, but it was definitely effective!
Conservative wisdom has it that it's ok to rough some terrorist up, if it might prevent another 9/11, that would kill 3,000 MORE. The libs of course, don't understand that. "Political correctness" is what's keeping the gates open for the Somali pirates.............but the bleeding hearts don't see THAT, either.
I'm really curious to see what the "anti-arrogant" president does with those GITMO prisoners....................as if we didn't know.
Pelosi and Napolitano will probably push to make them citizens so they will show their appreciation by voting DEMOCRAT next time around.
It's never been any mystery why most minorities have traditionally been Democrats over the last several decades. When you take from those who work hard, and give it to the lazy...........hell, why work? The Democratic Party has always appealled to those who have learned to make welfare a way of life, and it holds true today...............right out of the box, Obama wooed these potential voters with his "tax the rich and spread the wealth" song and dance.
Hey...........every DROP-OUT knows what THAT means! This is basically the same way they're pushing this "Nationalized this and Socialized that."
Free........that word has a double meaning. To Conservatives like myself, the word "Free" means BEING free.
To the followers of the "pied piper", it means GETTING THINGS for free.
Our government never GAVE anybody anything, except our tax dollars to foeign countries.
Ever seen or heard of the IRS going after Mexico, Africa, India or any OTHER country that owes us MILLIONS?.............................but if they think YOU owe them a hundred bucks...................
That's different, though. You're an AMERICAN by God, and it's your sacred duty and "patriotic" privilege to fund these thieves in Washington.
Understand how that works, Eagle Eye? If you don't, you're in good company!
You'll notice that Sarah Palin didn't take any of that stimmulous........the "inexperienced one" up there has run her state well enough that they aren't in financial trouble, but more than THAT......she doesn't want the government micro-management that would come WITH that money.
Aw bazook you know we have to play by all the rules even in war, we have to set the example but other counties and cut of heads, shot people and thats ok, I never did understand why we have to play by rules and nobody else does
Just look at WW2, Koren and Vietnam I am so sure they played by all the rules, what a worthless joke
As barbarian as it sounds, it may be of use in some situations. However those situations would seem to be few. It seems like a way to vent frustrations and be justified in one's savagery. Overall, it is hard to define when it would be necessary and when it is pointless. Such is the quandary of most things it seems.
Why is it that the United States always has to "play by the rules?" We can't do that anymore with a world of radicals blowng themselves up in malls, and beheading people that THEY catch.
We're turning into a nation of pansies, afraid of standing up and doing what needs to be done, out of fear that it might be "mean-spirited" or something.
That pirate they just captured will probably be plea-bargained away, and turned loose on our streets with out blessings and tax dollars for "his inconvenience" for our "arrogance"................right along with those GITMO prisoners that Obama will be apologizing for next, as he bows and kisses the hem of the U.N.
