  • Do not want to omit the gym or auditorium, just to downsize them.

No frills, I think not. While an updated gym is needed along with more classrooms, a $93,000 indoor running track and a 500 seat auditrium seems like a frill to me. I for one have never said to cut either just ask that the size of them be reduced as I, and many others, feel that the current design is too large.

You tell the citizens to step up an meet their responsibilty, how about the school board step up and do what is in the best interest of the children and the PARENTS? If this bond passes, how many children will have to work and not be able to utlize these facilites? They will have to work to help their parents pay for the bond along with everything else that is increasing in costs on a daily basis.

That is just my opinion and I do not have any facts to back it up. I say go vote and voate based on your choice, but do vote.

  • Old Guy,

I don't have facts either but I don't think takeing say 200 seats out of the auditrium is going to change the price signifcantly, the way I think and I could be wrong it would change the price of taxes by only a few pennies for each person. I do agree that an indoor track is not needed but again it would add pennies to our taxes and it can be used during the winter months when it is to cold to use the outdoor track. It can also be used by the community, I have tried walking the outdoor track in the summer and the bugs were terrible it would be nice to have an indoor track that everyone can use. You also have to consider if the graduating class gets to 300 kids which in a few years it will be and they have to have graduation inside the audioriom will not hold everyone if both parents go. So they aren't building a huge place.

    Small Town,

My point is that some portions of this project need to be revised like the auditorum or the indoor running track. Also where in this 10 year plan does it address what will happen to the current gym and the area used as a cafeteria? It seems that the district only keeps pointing out perceived benefits and not the impact these additions will have on other areas. If you read my post closer, what are your thoughts on the effects on a household that will need the children to work to help pay for everyday expenses like food, housing and medical care? If you go back and look over all my posts, I think upgrades are needed but not at the cost that is proposed in this bond. That is all I am saying.

  • Really?

A 4 court, 3000 seat, 2 storied, tournament rec center is NOT required by state law. A gym is. What the school district is asking for is way beyond what the state law requires for a gym.

City Council doesn't think money grows on trees? We are paying one of the highest if not THE highest non-resident library fees in the STATE, that they approved.

No frills. That is a matter of opinion and mine certainly differs from yours. Honestly. An indoor track neccessary. It's nice, but not neccessary. Ditto cardio room, ......check out the banter box for more.

  • Kelly how does it feel knowing that you have lied on behalf of the people who have raped Mountain Home and let the city go to hell for the last 30 years? How does it feel knowing these people spent $2 million to put a coffee shop in the library, a business that failed, and didn't expand a single inch of book space with that money, or buy a single new book? Now the contractors need some more cash so suddenly a new school is needed? You did not live up to your 1960's journalistic ideals did you?Would to God you had quit editorializing with empty rhetoric and actually used your newspaper for good.

Its not too late. Quit being a city policy form. Work for the people.

  • ROTF LMAO Bazookaman!! Love the minefields comment.

And THAT light by the Post Office. I sat there once while the light changed 3 times and I still didn't get my green arrow. I couldn't take it anymore and ended up running a red light to get out of there. I mean, what can one do. Call 911 and have a cop escort me doing a left hand turn.

Aaahhh. And the VW. Man, what campus nostalgia. At least it's mostly warm here. I went to school in a much colder area. Had to scrape the window from the inside, shift, and turn my head to the right to breath, because if I breathed with my face forward, it would frost the window up faster and I couldn't see. My beat up, battered pick up has character in it's own way, but it's just not the same.

And ditto, ditto, ditto on the California exodus. There are SOOOO many 'suburbs' in this country. The small town and it's values are fading. We need some improvements, but I would like to hold back the suburbanizing of Mtn Home as long as possible.
