Small town getting too small

This past week I'm sure by the comments that are being posted that we have all read the story of the CHILD bringing a gun to school. The same CHILD who realized that his friends may have been lying to him and then TURN HIMSELF IN.
I'm pretty sure once this boy started to realize how severe his actions were, he immediately started to regret the decision to disobey his parents in favor of peer pressure. But what child has ever given in to peer pressure and how many adults do the same thing? I commend this mother and father for having the courage to publicly admit their mistake and to be able to put up with all the garbage this small town seems to dish out when times get bad. They are now in the process of teaching their son another important part of family. They are defending him and showing him that they will love him no matter how tough the road is. The parents have asked the people of Mountain Home to allow them and the school district to discipline their child and I think the general public has no right to put our nose into their decision. I'm sure that the school district will handle this situation in a fair manner. The parents are now handling it. I don't think the VILLAGE needs to ostracize this family further. If we can support this child and his family in their time of need we won't have to worry about another "Columbine" happening.

"Put up with all the garbage this small town seems to dish out when times get bad" what are you talking about. Do you actually think that if this happened in a bigger city that you would not get the same result. Give me a break. This is not just some minor infraction. This town supports more victims of disastrous in their time of need then I have ever seen however, this kid is not a victim.
"What child has ever given in to peer pressure and how many adults do the same thing?" Have I ever given in to peer pressure? Sure I have but I have never given in to something that was as serious as this. Why, because I knew better. My parents taught me that but apparently his parents forgot about that lesson.

"I think the general public has no right to put our nose into their decision." You honestly don't think that the public (many of them parents) have a right to put there nose in this decision? A decision that affects the safety of the children of our community. This isn't a school house fist fight. Regardless of whether or not he planned to use it we do have a right to have input on what happens in our schools. They are public schools as you know and I am apart of the public that helps pay for these schools so I should know what happens and we should have input to what goes on.
Last but not least I love this line that you put in this blog, "I don't think the VILLAGE needs to ostracize this family further." I am not ostracizing this family, I am ostracizing the act that was commited. In fact, I don't think that you need to ostracize the "VILLAGE" for getting involved in a serious issue like this.
Now don't get me wrong, I do think that some people go over the top on things sometimes. In fact when I was in high school we used to leave our shotguns hanging in the windows of our pickups so that we could go hunting after school but that was right before all the school shooting starting happening and everything changed. You just can't do that sort of thing anymore and these kids know this or they sould know this.
Anyway, there is my two cents.
Allowing children unsupervised access to deadly weapons, is, in my opinion, that person's negligent endangerment of not only a child, but the general public, and should be punishable by law. All the good folks out there who have trained their children properly and who maintain their weapons correctly should agree with this -- because whenever a situation like this arises, ALL gunowners are tainted.
all else aside you cant put something like this in the news and not expect a reaction . duh.

when the act involves the community then there are community repercussions for the act. We are dealing with individuals that do not realize the severity of a gun at school and minimize the actions of their son. If the child did not understand the severity of bringing a gun to school, understanding what NO means or even allowing others to push him to do so, we need to look at the upbrining of the child as well as his potential to inflict additional damage to others.
