We're home.......

This blog was suppose to be about the wisdom that comes "out of the mouth of babes", but I'm not sure that these are real "babes" that I'm talking about.......!

These guys are smart, truthful little aliens! Someone had to have disabled their little spaceship and left them on my doorstep to see how much havoc they could wreak.

Sometimes you can come home from work and all is peaceful and some days like yesterday you never know what's going to pop out of their mouths!

During the course of 4 hours I had been told that my real name was grandma and my nickname was Joy. That's not exactly how I thought it was but I can live with that one. I also found out that if I drove my car off a cliff and jumped out just as it was going over I might break a leg, but I won't die! Now that one I refuse to try even if it would satisfy a 4 year olds mind! I also learned a bit more than I would like about Freddie Krueger. He has green worms in his head, so when you cut it off, it makes a mess all over the floor and when he tries to kill me, a certain unnamed 4 yr old (excuse me almost 5 year old!) would try to help me but his daddy said he can't get out of bed, no matter what! Chivalry is not dead!

Some of this stuff is cute. I have to ask though, why would a five year old even know who Freddie Krueger is? Seems a bit young to be watching or knowing that kind of stuff.

Awww, you beat me to it! Freddie scared me half to death when I was a teen. I can't imagine letting babies watch those movies.

I know that kid. I'm not surprised he said that.

I'm still waiting on an answer from the Grandma about this.

My kids are grown now but they grew up watching Jason and Freddy. And I grew up watching horror movies also. There is nothing wrong with it. At least he was willing to try and help grandma but by the same token he is still minding his dad.

My child is grown now and there IS something wrong with allowing a four year old to watch a movie such a "Nightmare On Elm Street" and other movies of that nature. Children have very impressionable minds. If your children were teenagers when they watched those kinds of movies, that's fine, if they were four years old, they should not have been watching them.

A child I babysat had nighmares and he described them to me, he was about seven at the time. A giant, bloody head chasing him down the hallway in his home. Later in the day he told me about watching "The Lost Boys" and how one of those vampires had bitten into the head of someone and blood shot out of his skull. I don't have to wonder where the big, bloody head chasing him down the hall came from.

When I was growing up, I was allowed to watch movies such as "Dracula, "Frankenstein" and the "Werewolf", let's put this into perspective though. When I was growing up, the special affects in movies were such that you could tell it wasn't real. Now, when someone loses their head in a movie, it looks 100% real. Horror movies have come a long way and have no business being viewed by young children. There are ratings on movies for a reason. It's a shame parents can't abide by them.

I would have to say there is a difference between allowing children to watch these movies by themselves and allowing them to watch them with their parents or uncle. This 4 year old is my nephew and I can say right now that I have watched a couple horror movies with him and his sisters. There is nothing wrong with them watching these movies as long they know the difference between real and fake. AND yes, children of that age do understand the difference. Children of young ages have a very active imagination. I can say right now I wouldn't change what I have seen growing up and I would watch the movie SAW with my nephew right now.

Sorry, Weebro, if there was nothing wrong with very young children watching these movies, we wouldn't have ratings for them. You may think this child is old enough to be able to handle this kind of thing, it's been proven that they can't.

Apparently your nephew has thought this out long enough to believe that Freddy has green worms in his head and when he tries to kill your nephews grandmother, he's going to cut his head off and the green worms are going to spill out all over the floors. That doesn't sound like he realizes Freddy isn't real.

Would you allow this child to watch soft porn, after all, nothing REALLY happens there, it's all just pretend and you could surely tell him that nothing he is seeing is real, right?

Ratings are there for a reason. In my opinion, not using them as a guideline to protect small children from their content is extremely irresponsible as a parent, grandparent, uncle, aunt, sister, brother or any adult. Do the right thing, admit to him you were wrong to allow him to watch that kind of movie and then go rent some G movies for him, there are plenty of them out there.
