Partly Cloudy ~ 52°F
ANOTHER one of THOSE days
Posted Sunday, July 27, at 11:59 AM
Everyone has one of those days. You know the kind. The one where everything that you do or don't do, goes wrong!

Yesterday, was my day!

I thought I would start Saturday off by just doing the things that needed to get done and then relaxing for the rest of the day, NOT!

I start my Saturdays off by mowing yards for people. Well that shouldn't be too much of a problem. I went to my job as usual, everything was fine. I mow a very large yard pretty early in the morning and I try not to wake the owners. So here I am sitting on a garden tractor and everything is fine, until I have to back up and the mower goes in reverse at about 1/2 inch per minute, if I'm lucky. I keep mowing and then when the owners get up I tell them that it won't go in reverse. I'm trying to show them what I mean and of course, the mower goes into reverse just fine! (The beginning of a bad day, I think)

Next I go home thinking it's still early, I'll mow my own yard, no problem. That lasted maybe ten minutes. My riding mower is still sitting on a high spot in my yard with the back wheels off the ground. (Haven't figured out how to push the mower, while still being seated) to get it off the high spot... Maybe tomorrow.

Day is done and now I just want to relax for the evening. Children have moved out, animals are all settled for the night. Knock, Knock.... Company shows up. OK still no problem, we're sitting in my living room, talking and having a good time... You guessed it, something happens. We hear a bang from my cockatiels cage. I look up in time to see my female jump(?) from the top of the cage to the bottom, she's done it before... no problem. Ten minutes later, Company says .. Why does the bird lay on the bottom of the cage like that? Is it sleeping? Lo and behold, bird has committed suicide! I don't understand why, she had a good home, good parents, good mate.

Let's see if going to bed will solve this day!!

The "ME" Generation
Posted Saturday, May 17, at 6:52 PM

Having just come from Crazee Daze, I was amazed to find out that our 13 year old is not the only person in the "ME" generation. For some reason the children in this age group seem to think that the world is revolving around them. I saw so many young teens at the carnival with wads of money poked in their pockets. (Believe me some of the pants didn't have room for pockets!...

In a recent conversation with my three son's on the topic of where they live vs where I should live: 21 year old: "I'm going to retire in 6 years and you can come live with me" Me: " That would be great, just make sure you get a house, so that I can bring my pets"...

Help Wanted!!
Posted Tuesday, April 8, at 10:38 AM

Help Wanted: Need someone to teach an old lady how to ride a bike. Too short for a mountain bike, too tall for a tricycle! I figured out that if $20 = approx. 6 gallons of gas, I am not going to be driving very far. Especially driving in from the county to town every day...

Remember --I don't know?
Posted Thursday, March 20, at 5:43 PM

Everyone knows that my house is full of children, and I love it that way. But sometimes there are just one too many kids in the house. Every parent will know which kid this is, the one that seems to live there but you never see them. His/her universal name is I DON'T KNOW! Well let me tell you, when I get hold of I DON'T KNOW? I am sending him/her back home!...

Small town getting too small
Posted Saturday, March 1, at 3:57 PM

This past week I'm sure by the comments that are being posted that we have all read the story of the CHILD bringing a gun to school. The same CHILD who realized that his friends may have been lying to him and then TURN HIMSELF IN. I'm pretty sure once this boy started to realize how severe his actions were, he immediately started to regret the decision to disobey his parents in favor of peer pressure...

Bomb threats or boredom?
Posted Friday, February 15, at 3:07 PM

I see that the Junior High is having another of it's frequent bomb threat, fire alarm, rumor day again. Maybe if we start making the kids responsible for their actions and not the parents, they may learn how expensive all the resources are for the emergency personnel to come from town and base to check out another false alarm. ...

Where's the street?!?
Posted Tuesday, February 12, at 2:28 PM

I recently discovered that the roads in Mountain Home disappear with the snow. Driving down 18th, I thought that the potholes were going to swallow my entire car! I would try to just skim the potholes when another car would come past me in the other lane. ...

Kudos to emergency personnel
Posted Monday, January 21, at 9:49 AM

I spent last week listening to the scanner, as the weather progressed into a good size storm. I have to hand it to the police, sheriff, fire dept. and ambulance staff here in Mountain Home & the surround area. But, I'm just like the next private citizen in this town and I have not always agreed with both departments - but these guys did a great job that day. They were working slide-offs, rollovers and collisions all over I84 and the local streets in town...
